Hi
I have got a brand new macbook non retina model to replace my ancient powebook g4 .

I want to replace the standard hd with a ssd how do i go about getting the os onto the new disc . Im a complete newbie with macs and only use them for my dj work and nothing else . Do i clone it or can i download a iso from somewhere and install it that way .

Quick thing: firstly, unless you have strange requirements, is it possible to get a refund and move to a rMBP? Purely because it's a better machine in every single way! I'm presuming that isn't possible however!

To answer your question, if you want to transfer the install that's currently on the stock HD, use CarbonCopyCloner. If you just want to have a fresh install on the new drive, then simply install the drive, start up while holding Command+R, and follow the instructions :)

It would have been possible to get a refund but i opted for the non retina display due to the fact you could swap out the drive and replace it ,same as the memory .The retina display models are basically disposable if they break down out of warranty .

Its only used for dj work and the spec is way faster than what is needed so it made sense to get the cheaper model . Its still a very nice machine
