Hey

Ive been looking at the Macbook Pro's for a while now and i cant decide on what screen to go for either the Glossy or the Matte, ive had a look round and still cant decide. I was wondering if you could give me feedback on yours and what you think and weather if you could change it you would.

Im going to wait till January (even though VAT goes back upto 17.5%) because i read somewhere that the Macbook will probably be getting updated in January maybe early Febuary. So ive got abit of time to get some feedback on what screen to go for.

It will be used inside mainly but my bed room is quite well lit from the window as it gets quite a lot of light in.

I look forward to hearing what you think, and thanks inadvance.

Glossy all the way. The screen is so damned bright that you will never see any reflections unless you find yourself at the equator.

Thanks for the fast reply, i was thinking of the glossy it does look a lot better. Only thing that put me off was people saying the reflections are really bad, but if you say it isnt that bad then ill probably go with glossy :)

I think the reflections are terrible if your not facing it straight on. Not good if your showing other people stuff on your screen etc.

I have glossy, but would go Matte given the choice again.

The reflection can get annoying, esp. if you are working on low brightness to preserve the battery.

Ah so the reflection actually is quite a bad thing. I was hoping it wasnt as bad as people say as the the glossy one does look a lot nicer. If thats the case maybe matte would be better.

I like the glossy screen personally, i only really notice the difference when its plugged into my old monitor too (and in windows). It looks nicer when presenting things more than anything else :)

Id be mainly using it indoors and mostly for films chat and editing, if that has an effect on which would be better

The glossy screen is just diabolical as far as i'm concerned. I couldn't use mine anywhere without seeing myself in the screen, even straight on (Unless I was in a dark room, like that happens a lot!). There doesn't even have to be a direct light source. The problem is only exacerbated when you're running lower brightness (Or calibrated brightness) to conserve battery.

Besides the added vibrancy, I genuinely struggle to see how people can like them. It's like looking in a coloured mirror.

Go for matte.

Unless you use the laptop in a very dark room, Matte all the way. Even light from your window or a lamp, night lamp will cause, really noticeable, reflections on the glossy screen.

Go to a local Apple Store before you buy, if you want to compare tbh, as it is something you are stuck with once you buy it, or borrow someone's laptop with a glossy screen.

It really isn't as bad as people are saying - the screen on brain-scorchin'-brightness will be brighter than any reflection unless you find yourself outdoors or in a conservatory in the height of summer.

I was equally as skeptical but am more than satisfied with the result of the glossy screen. When you have the matte and glossy next to each other, the glossy is far brighter... plus the glossy is glass so is exceptionally durable against stains/finger prints/spit/food/etc.

If you have an iPhone you will appreciate that glossy is the way.

The glossy screen is nice on the iPhone because you're always moving your fingers over it. But it still sucks for reflections (Tried watching a movie on it on a train or similar?)

And with the laptop, the same as the iPhone, turning the brightness upto eye burning levels is not the answer. The whole point of a laptop is to be portable, use on the move, without a power source, in a variety of lighting conditions. Quite simply, matte suits this purpose better than glossy. I just do not see how glossy has taken off for Laptops beyond looking nicer on the showroom floor (The reason they're even there at all of course).

I have glossy, if you plan to use your laptop outdoors/on the train where the sun can be shining directly on it on very high light environments go matte. Otherwise go with glossy as it does look nicer.

For common use I have no issues with reflections - ever. Only when I am out and about with it can it suffer and not all trains have handy power sockets.

This is an absolute must! ^^^

I much prefer glossy though. Images look cleaner and sharper.
