Hey all,

Been having recent ups and downs with my MBP 2012, non-retina. Had a few minor issues with a few months ago and took it into a local Apple Authorised Reseller to have it repaired. The repair job was to fix a broken webcam and audio jack. It was sent away and came back with a new screen and logic board.

Since then I've been having a variety of odd issues that I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to help fix it. First issue is that under About this Mac, it was showing as having two built-in displays and going into extended desktop mode with its self. Alongside this I've been having freezes in games (D:OS, ESO) and crashing to the desktop. The final issue is the screen brightness controls not responding and being unable to change brightness from within system settings.

Of the above issues, the multiple displays issue seems to have been corrected with an OS X reinstall, the second seems to have been fixed by installing the Nvidia Web Driver and the brightness buttons are still an issue. SMC and PRAM resets have done nothing either.

I'm going to be taking it back to the reseller next weekend and just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of things I can try to avoid it having to go away for another week, t'would be much appreciated.

You've already reset SMC and PRAM so do a clean OS X installation. Dual monitor issue could be caused change of logic board while not reinstalling a clean OS.

As above, have already done a clean installation and that problem is solved, I'm pretty much left with non-functional brightness keys and freezing during gaming.

These seem to be hardware issues. See if it's eligible for free repairs at Apple?

You're legally entitled to a replacement now. Take it to Apple Store rather than an authorized repair centre.

When did you buy it? did you buy from Apple direct or a 3rd party reseller?

I'm only asking because if you bought it 3rd party and want a replacement you will need to go to them and raise a consumer law claim. It is not as straight forward as people assume. It has to be proven by the customer that this issue was there from date of purchase (which I highly doubt it was)

A free repair is all you may get.
