Hello there i have just ordered a macbook pro.
will i need a firewall and virus software for the machine.
or will i be ok without getting some, thx in response.

OS X comes with a firewall which I believe is turned off by default. Personally I've never bothered with software firewalls, even under Windows and prefer to rely on the firewall in my router.

You don't need any AV software at all for your Mac. Have a look at this thread where even though someone claims that there are viruses, despite being asked to tell us what they are, he doesn't manage it.

Oh, and you don't need any defrag software either :)

Welcome to the wonderful world of Mac.

Need any help, this place is great for tips/remedies/know how.
Feek has been known to give out the odd bit of good advice. :p

Be prepared for the day you want to hug your mac (there will be a day!!!), thats when you'll feel a little weird getting attached to it and at the same time wonder why its taken so long to get one! (even my mum was impressed with my mbp and she doenst like computers!)
