Hey all,

I was considering a Macbook purchase (Before you say, I'll wait until after November 6th, just incase ;))

Anyways, I've got a few questions...

1. The only time I've used a macbook (OSX) is in the apple store for like 5 minutes. So I've always used XP. Will I be able to get to grips with OSX fast?

2. I was considering getting the cheapest macbook and just upgrading the parts from it. I've heard about the easily upgradable RAM, but are there any other parts you can upgrade? I.e. HD etc. And where do you get the parts from?

3. How well does XP run on OSX?

3.1. If I ran XP (Dual Boot) will it be able to play games that I am normally able to play in XP?

4. Is it worth the dosh?

Thanks :D

Take about a week to get to grips with the basics, after that you learn things as you go along. I bought a OSX book with my first Mac which helped a lot.

RAM and HD are easy upgrades, same as any other laptop.

If by ON you mean in a VM, runs well but with no hardware accelerated graphics (i.e nothing graphical is going to run well/at all). If you use Bootcamp it will run as well as any other Windows machine but bear in mind the MacBooks only have the GMA950 onboard graphics.

IMO, yes, good entry into the world of Mac and OSX.

1. It's very easy to get used to. It's got a very user friendly feel to it, and everything is so simple, will take you no time to understand it all. Plus, if you have any questions, post them in here and the fellow Mac users will happily help you!

2. That's the best way to do it, don't ever use Apples upgrades, they are very overpriced imo. The user replaceable parts on a MacBook are the RAM as you said, and the HDD is user replaceable too. Any of these will work perfectly.

3. XP runs as it would on an equivalently specced laptop imo, but can be sluggish.

3.1. Yes you will, providing they don't require too much RAM, GFX power etc, so as long as the MacBook meets the minimum required specs it should be fine.

4. Definitely, I think that's one thing that puts people of Macs, the price. They are definitely worth every penny.

Thanks to the both of you for your super answers :)

Does anyone have a link to a few reviews that I am able to read or some more pictures of the applications as well as the insides of the mac (Hardware wise)

I'm at exactly the same stage as you mate, waiting til the 6th for updates :)

then getting my first Mac too, I'll be dual booting XP too.

I have heard that the new update will have alu frames like the MBP and uber slim too. And also have gfx upgraded to x3100 gfx chipset :)

I can't wait, i'll be waiting completely til the new ones come out.

I'll get a list that i found on the net and it seems pretty much certain from looking about on the net.

I've got the apple site as my homepage now, as soon as they release the new model i'm ordering it, straight away :)

You'd be better off having http://www.macrumors.com as your homepage, they're usually good with spotting the new products.
