I've just stuck 2 sticks of 512MB Ram into my Macbook, they cost £30 each so I didn't really save much but I should be able to get a few quid for the old ones.

The actual process itself is fairly easy. It did take two attempts to get it working though.

The important thing to note is that you must push the RAM in very very hard, I had to use the handle on my precision screwdriver to force them all the way down. Also note you need you need a pretty small screwdriver to get the metal cover off the RAM slots.

I haven't done any testing but it does seem a fair bit quicker :)

Also, which brand did you use. That would be very usefull, as it's becoming apparent that intel based mac's dont like certain brands of ram. Any info is always usefull.

Corsair Value Select 667MHz. Strangely Spotlight is being a little odd. It works fine in a finder window but it doesn't do anything in the top right of the screen.

Sorted, I just had to force the SystemUIServer to restart to rebuild the menu bar and thus relaunch Spotlight. Works fine now, don't know why it got upset in the first place.

The RAM has made a pleasent improvement to Mac OS X, Safari and Itunes load in less than one bounce now which is pretty amazing. Half Life 2 in Windows seems to have had a dramatic performance increase.

How are you getting on with that Corsair RAM? I've seen quite a few reports of the MacBook Pro not liking it, but chances are it's an EFI problem so i'm not sure if the MacBook will have the same issues.

I've got 2 sticks of Corsair Value Select here ready for my MacBook.

I've only read good reports about it so far.

I paid £112 for 2x 1gb, so I'll be maxed out from day one! :)

Just need my MacBook now... (TNT says it's in Arnhem now, so at least it's made it from China)

Unfortunately, I've only read bad things about it.. on the Pro at least :(

Just google for '"corsair value select" macbook' and you'll see what I mean.

The place I was going to get it from didn't have it in stock anyway, I wanted somewhere to pick up today. Let me know how you get on when your book turns up :)

Yep, all working smoothly here. Had a few KPs but that's definately to do with the headphone problem, I'm pretty sure I had one before upgrading the RAM anyways.

Just done a search on Apple Support forums, and MB users are all saying it's fine, the problems are with the MBPs for some reason.

Same as google reports really.

So I reckon us MB users should be ok.

Ok, cheers, hopefully there's no issues with the MacBook then. Could you do me a favour when you're not busy though, can you give this a run? http://memtestosx.org/

Quite a few people that had issues didn't have problems with the OSX memory tester, but that app is a bit more intensive.

I'll be buying 6 of the 1 gig ones if I can find them in stock.. so fingers crossed the problems are all a load of hooey :)

That's what I was hoping, it's likely an EFI problem, so hopefully the MacBooks aren't effected.

512meg and Office running via Rosetta really don't mix :D
