Anyone got any red hot info? Rumours seem to be it will be thinner, lighter, perhaps with no DVD and with Sandybridge.

I would buy a 15 inch now but awaiting the new ones. April or so I hear...

Anyone got anything new? How Apple keep this secret without leaks is amazing !

The latest rumoured release of the new Macbook Pros is the 1st March.

I would say that probably sounds about right aswell!

Check Macrumors.com for the latest :)

1st March mate? Gee, as soon as that? Wow, maybe I'll leave it a while when they come out and let someone else have the 1.0 problems. Really want a MBP 15'er.

Yep :) As I mentioned though, it's only a rumour...
People originally thought it was going to be released early-mid February, but due to the Intel Sandybridge incident, it is believed to have slowed the production of Macbook Pros by a few weeks.

I'm looking at getting a 15" Macbook Pro when the refresh comes... Here are my perfect upgrades :p:

Higher Resolution
Sandybridge Processor
ATI Graphics Card
4GB RAM as standard
SSD as standard for OS
Removable SuperDrive (So you can replace it with a standard HD ;))
Liquid Metal Casing
Lighter (In weight, not as in cigarette starter-upper :p)
Better Battery
Samish Shape as before (Some have been saying it may take the Macbook Air shape - but I don't like it :p)

£5 says Sandy Bridge in the current package, maybe the odd small tweak like USB3.

I doubt there will be anything shocking, it's just the MR crowd getting all hyper and dreaming up a pie-in-the-sky wishlist.

The DVD drive won't be going anywhere.

If you need something that is more portable without the connectivity that the Pro offers, then that's what the MacBook Air is for.

I also don't really see that there is likely to be that much of an upgrade other than the processor/internal gubbins. Sure they could up the resolution a little on the screens, but in terms of the actual form factor of the machine it's really good, I don't know why they would change the current one.

This is it. They like their products to be distinct from each other.

Plus most people, right now, would push back hard against having the DVD drive taken out of a 'standard' notebook computer. I know Apple like to punt things along as far as leaving things behind goes, but no DVD drive, this year, is too soon.

Do you think theyll ever be able to fit a Superdrive, HD and SSD into a 15" MBP? Would be very tempted to upgrade if that was possible...

Nah! Get that stuff out and use the room for battery!

Which is where people like IBM were over 10 years ago with the Ultrabay. One modular bay that you can use for various storage options or an additional battery etc. That and a docking station option and they'd make some headway in the corporate market.

The last Mac portable with a swappable bay was the Pismo G3 IIRC.

Possible if they use the blade type SSD as found in the new MBA. Certainly more space efficient than the stick it in a 2.5" form factor approach.

I would prefer user mounted SSD options as I know the SSDs Apple supply arent brillant or cheap. More that there is that room to do it. I know it was always going to be a tight fit, maybe those hybrid drives might actually become more useful...

EDIT: Ahh I see these blade-types are coming out for users anyway - cool :D
