Hey guys,

I am ready to order a macbook + 2GB ram since I get the higher edu disc also. You think anything new will pop up soon? I decided to go for it now since C2D just got introduced.

lol, I'm just about to press buy for the same thing using the same discount. I've decided to pop down to town one last time tomorrow morning to feel one then order. It won't get hear any faster ordering now or tomorrow at 11 :p Do you reckon it'll come in time for Christmas?

Sorry to steal your thread :p

Great choice. Be wary though display models have usually been battered a bit and it may be hard to see the true beauty of the MacBook. 2 gigs of RAM is definatley worth it. You will feel the speed.

Hopefully it will come for Xmas, but if it's CTO (custom to order) it might take a little longer.

Will this make you a first time Mac user?

Not bad - what do you need to claim it? I'm in full time employment but I also hold an NUS card due to my MSc with the Open University. Does that count?

EDIT: Looks like I am!
a student aged 18 and over with a valid student card, attending, or accepted into, a UK education establishment

Ordered 2gig RAM for my Macbook - hopefully I should notice a difference going from the stock 512mb. Love my Macbook and hope you guys who have just ordered enjoy yours!!

I am going into macs for the first time yes. The discounts for Higher education are too good to ignore considering the quality of OSX and components in macs, as well the looks. :)

I ordered mine on Monday, also with the educational discount. According to someone I spoke to at Apple, you will get your's earlier if you buy it over the phone, rather than online, as the telesales dept. have priority. It was dispatched on Thursday and should be with me by Monday.
All in all it was a bargain with the student discount. I'm gonna swap out the stock HDD for a 160GB model. It was gonna work out cheaper to do this upgrade myself rather than get apple to do it for me. I did get them to put in the 2GB RAM tho.
Nice little early Christmas pressie to myself. Now all I have to do is work out how I'm gonna get a tri-boot setup with Linux and Windows on the go!

That's the same as I'm doing DeeJay-Mo, ordered 2gb of ram with Apple then putting a 160gb hdd in myself :) Can't wait!

Where does this come from? For a basic MacBook the UK store lists £749 inc. and the Education store lists £708.83 inc. That's only 5.4% off!
Dunno. I guess it varies - and that the online store doesn't have the full discounts you get when accessing through an academic network. I spoke to them on the phone and was given around 15% off for my MBP :)

There are 3 bands of discounts depending where you are studying.

Further - Listed colleges only
Higher - Listed universities + ocassional college only
Standard - Everything else education wise.

Then depending on the product you are wanting to purchase the discounts are usually betweeen 5 and 15 percent.

Higher education discount on MB is ~14%
Further education discount on MB is ~11%
Standard education discount on MB is ~6%

I guess that was wishful thinking. I wouldn't put much faith in the old "you'll get it quicker if you order through" routine. Methinks the guy I spoke to was just trying to nab the commission. I checked my emails and now apple are telling me it should arrive on or before the 18th.
Bah, I'm getting impatient now. I want my lappy!

The wait is horrible isn't it! I had to wait for a C2D MacBook to arrive, and then I sent it back to upgrade to a MacBook Pro C2D and I had to wait for that one to arrive!

It's well worth it the wait though :)
