Machine running slow?

I think i have a hardware problem as a fresh install off windows is showing the same problems. In the vista sidebar it always shows my second core to be running above 25% and there is nothing running in the background. I dont remember seeing this before. The pc is running really slow in games and opening up apps.

Any ideas?

Theres no programs running and hardly anything in processes

Try disabling the Superfetch service.

superfetch is a good thing though

without that, there's little point moving from xp

Also, superfetch runs as an idle process in the background.. it will *not* chew up your cpu

I've had superfetch disabled for the last 6 months and haven't noticed any difference between this version of Vista and version which has Superfetch enabled.

programs open instantly

on my 8gb system, vista has about 10mb free (superfetch using it), everything opens really quickly

i've since moved back to xp64 though, as gaming seems better in that

Has DX10 been cracked to work on XP then? (Assuming you have a DX10 card)

dunno, the only dx10 games i have are COH and Crysis, they run too jerky on my 8800gt (compared to dx9), so atm i play at dx9 anyway

no, it hasn't, and won't be.

It uses a completely different graphics subsystem.
