I was reading 'i' today and there was a mini article saying :

"Scientists may soon be able to hear what the animals are saying, Dolphins have big brains, social structures, names, distinct personalities and are probably self aware"

Heres a source i found on google.

Now when this is actually made and we have deciphered the whole dolphin language what implication do you think it will have on animal rights, not only that but in life in general? I honestly think something like this will have a huge impact on the way we treat animals and you never know, maybe Dolphins have greater knowledge and understanding then we do about the way the world works.

I remember reading something about a family who brought their daughter to see dolphins every day as she was growing up, as a result of this she could communicate with them? Could have been complete bull though :p

Dolphins have a female human like vagina too.

Congrats lonely people. :D

Hmm, a google led to this:

In certain dolphin species, namely Bottlenose, female vaginal tracts secrete an organic chemical while mating that allow a male to orgasm for as long as the penis remains within the vaginal tract, resulting in multiple continuous ejaculations. This is speculated to increase chances of fertilization for each act of reproduction. It has been tested and proven in controlled environments that this same organic chemical produces identical effects in similar dolphin species, and in mammals with less than sufficient genetic disparity, including primate and primate families.

Followed by a guide entitled 'How to Mate With a Dolphin', that ends with this:

One final note. You should love a dolphin, not because of the sexual relief they can provide, but because they are a unique animal, one of the few wild animals that seek the company of man by their own initiative. This is special. Do not abuse it.

Now how did you find that out i wonder? ;)

well if you left the kid with them since birth then yea, the kid will probably pick up some language. It happened to the kid who was left with a bunch of dogs, people found him when he was an adult, he acted 100% like a dog and he has some sort of communication with other dogs. <- a level psychology.

Thread title immediately reminded me of this Gary Larson cartoon.

I read something a while back about scientists doing communication tests on dolphins, such as pointing out objects on the screen. It would be pretty fascinating if humans and dolphins could communicate to each other.

I can help but think this is / would be a load of carp. For starters what are they using as a cipher to break what their saying ?. Its surely going to end up as complete gibberish, I’m not saying they aren’t intelligent (they clearly are) but at what level are they hoping to communicate with them? Fish? The weather? what possible middle ground could they find. Just cant see how it could possibly work.

If its success can lead onto other studies of sound, noise interpretation then fair enough though. However as it stands I can't think of a more pointless study.

January 2012 - Humans create machine that deciphers Dolphin language.
April 2012 - Dolphins recognized as intelligent, sentient species. Given protection under law.
July 2012 - Human military decipher dolphin message discussing weapon of mass destruction.
September 2012 - Dolphins attack humans at sea life centres around the world. Also attack humans in open water. Human/Dolphin diplomatic relations severed.
October 2012 - Revenge attacks on dolphins. War is declared.

Dec 21st 2012 - Dolphins unleash WMD. The world is changed forever.

Something tells me the first exchange will go like this:

Dave (human): Uhh hello? Is this thing on? Ummm hi, we're human and we've built this set up to talk to you?
Eric (dolphin): <pause>
Dave (human): Hello?
Eric (dolphin): <pause>
Dave (human): Ed I don't think this is working...
Eric (dolphin): Look mate, we've had a chat, and if you don't stop all this tuna fishing we're going to have to resort to killing you all by releasing the 'continuous ejaculation' chemical into the world's water supply. Just sayin'.
Dave (human): Oh.

I'm jumping in! :D
