Righty... I currently have a little network setup as follows:

5 Machines in total:

3 x PC

1 is my standard machine With a motherboard with 2 NIC's 1x10/100 and 1 Gig
2 Is my download server With Standard 2 NIC's 1 10/100 (Onboard) and 1 Gig (D-Link Add in card)
3 is my neighbours machine that shares the network and internet via wireless.

Others:

4 XBOX with XBOX Media Center
5 XBOX 360

Router:

Netgear WGU624

All machines are connected to the Router via the 10/100 ports

Machines 1 and 2 are also connected together via the Gig nics with a cat 5 cable.

If i have the 2 gig nics disabled the network works fine... i can see all of the machines in the workgroup, transfer files, etc without a problem... XBMC works fine.

But if i connect up the 2 nics together (To transfer files between my machine and the download server faster) with 2 totaly different ip addresses and no Default DNS or Default Gateway i struggle browsing the network... I cannot see the workgroup from XBMC but i can transfer files to the xbox with the other 2 machines. The RSS feeds seem to work fine though etc...

If i change the ip adresses to the same range it still displays the fault... But if i disable them everything works fine again...

Hope i have been clear... lol!

Any ideas?

If you are running 2k/2k3 server on machine 2 you could do this by setting up RRAS.

PC->Server-> Switch -> other curd (ie pc is not directly connected to switch)

Put PC and server 1000mbit on 192.168.0.0/24 network
Otherkit and server nic 100mbit on 192.168.1.0/24 network. Setup netgear router and server to run RIP (using RRAS). (or use static routes if thats your bag)

Everything should then be fine.
