Mackbook price with HE discount

Blackbook is a rip off no matter what the discount! ;)

and yep got my 2.2ghz for £713 and 3 years applecare for £58 instead of £200.

oh and I don't know about your uni, but I was able to connect to mine via VPN and access the apple store from the comfort of my own home.

It's not as I recently had the top face (keyboard & mouse) replaced on mine (about 14 monts after purchase) and the guy in the Apple store scanned the barcode on my macbook and confirmed it was valid until 2009 (3 years after my purchase date).

I didn't pay anything extra at all, as long as you buy it from the HE store and not the standard 'Education' store which has a lower discount anyway you will get it for free. It's called something like the HE ECMA Warranty and covers parts and labour for 3 years, it's not AppleCare.

Time and again we get this come up.

Unless they have just changed it, if you buy with HE discount you get the full 3 year hardware support that you would get with Applecare. The extra £47 gives you the phone support for the full 3 years as well.

That image seems to suggest the deal has been changed.

I had the option of paying £47 when buying mine but that is not for the 3 year warranty, you definatly get the warranty without paying extra. My girlfriend bought a MacBook a couple of months ago and hers has a 3 year warranty too, Apple email confirming this after your purchase:

Like Panzerbjorn suggests, I think the extra is for phone support or something.

It says on the site (and in image above) "...extends your computer's 90 days of complimentary support and one-year warranty up to three years of world-class support."

so that would suggest that either the deal's changed or the site just doesn't want to mention something you get for free incase you want to pay for it anyway.
 
If all that is true then it means my local Apple store ripped me off - I think their words were something along the lines of 'you'll only be covered for one year unless you take out Applecare'. :mad:
 
I think it's just Apple trying to confuse people, if you buy from the HE store then there is a national contract that Apple has with higher education authorities that coves your computer for 3 years. I know for a fact that my girlfriend had the option for the £47 cover because she called me up and asked if she needed to add it, I told her it would be covered without it. Her power adapter for her MacBook blew up after 3 months, she is currently living in Germany and I called up Apple to track down a service center over there. She found one and they scanned her MacBook barcode and it was covered for 3 years. It was someone on these forums that advised me of this back in August 2006 when I bought my MacBook.
 
To be honest it wasn't very long ago that the price on the website for HE Applecare was the full £200 odd. It doesn't surprise me that they haven't included all of the details but at least the price is right.

I think this is why EVH always suggests ordering over the phone. You get to speak to someone who can answer all these questions.
 
I've just bought a 2.2GHZ C2D Macbook and 3yr apple care for £760.23

which works out at £600 before vat for the macbook and £47 before vat for the applecare.

I think as mentioned above ^ that apple do honour the warranty for 3 years.. but its not applecare... apple care includes the phone support etc etc...

but as usual, I'm, probably wrong! I think I'd probably be gutted if they'd pulled the wool over my eyes! But then again... apple care for 3 years is worth about 200 squid.... so either way its a good saving!

You get 3 years cover as standard on HE purchases.. the Applecare is basically extending the phone support to 3 years:o

that seems pretty conclusive. however, when i bought my macbook up in regent street last week the guy wouldnt stop trying to sell me apple care for £58 and told me i only had 1 years cover as standard??? confused.
