MacMini performance

Because they're idiots.

The market has been crying out for a product link between iMac and Mac Pro for years and they just can't see it. Or don't want to.
 
I don't know much about Apple's grand plan - but it seems to me if they did offer a system like this they would have a viable, competitive product for the largest segment of the market. The mainstream ~£500 Dell box. Maybe they just couldn’t get the profit margins they need in that segment though.

It would never be £500 but I'd buy it at £800-900. Quad core processor, HD2600 graphics with a higher option and 2 DVI ports, thats all I need, superdrive and space for 2 HDDs.
 
Yeah, I think an £800 Apple/OSX box would be competitive with a £500 Dell/Vista box with identical hardware. That £300 extra is Apple's margin for all the fancy packaging, brand development, software (given lower volumes) etc is paid for.

Who knows – maybe next year’s MacWorld!
