MacPro getting shocked

Hi got a brand new MacBook Pro I’ve plugged it in to charge now when I touch the top of the macbook where the apple sign is lit and run my hand across the back I get electrocuted? You can feel it when you run your had along the back of the case :confused: :confused:


Edit/ It does it all over the case, this isn’t good.

Well one would hope the "mains" were not anywhere near his macbook.......

the case is a block of metal correct with a grounded power input. could it be that something internally is giving charge to the case?

in which case back to the shop it is.
 
it must be static as you macbook will not be using 240volts in the laptop its self this is why you have a power brick i thought laptops used about 30volts or less but it has been i while since i had one.
 
If it's a light tingling then it's probably static - mine does it from time to time.


MBPs run on approx 18V IIRC so you'd get a proper shock if there was an earthing fault.
 
It’s not so much being electrocuted but you can feel a tingling quite heavy in your hand when you run your had all around the case, this can’t be acceptable for a near £2k laptop? It’s nowhere near the mains and not touching anything that can give it a charge apart from being plugged in.
 
Does it do it all the time, whether it's plugged into the mains or not?

Either way, it shouldn't happen.
 
I had exactly the same problem with my imac and my mac mini. It was caused by incorrect grounding of the electricity supply due to my using the wrong European mains adapter. I suggest you try in another socket then another house before you go back to the store. It could be that your plug isn't correctly wired, the socket or even the entire houses electricity supply. I assume you are using a uk plug?
 
I've had this on both unibodies i've had.

Try putting the power extension on see of it still does it.
 
How have you got it plugged in?

Have you got the full length lead plugged in with the lead that plugs onto the actual transformer? Or just the plug head that goes onto the transformer?

If it's the latter check to see if it has an earth, the metal "nobble" that the adapter/lead slides onto is the earth. The plug head adapter doesn't have an earth while the lead does.

I used to get tiny little electrical shocks when i used to use my old MBP with the plug adapter. Not big shocks or anything just a slight tingling.
 
LOL its nothing, if anyone here with a unibody MB or MBP slides their finger ever so lightly it feels like its vibrating/tingling....

Just the metal feeling sexual :o:D
 
I would take it to an Apple Store and let them check it out for you. I have a MBP and get no 'tingling' when I run my fingers over it - I may get a hard-on when I look at it, but that is a totally separate issue.

Get it checked out mate, no electrical items should give you any sense of electrical discharge through you if they are operating correctly.
