Mad Max

Think I'm going to pass on this one. Always get worried when reviews are only allowed out on day of release.

http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/mad-max-review/1900-6416232/ - 6/10

  • Hand-to-hand combat is simple and easy to exploit
  • Logical inconsistencies pull you out of the world and story
  • Most missions feel repetitive and mundane
  • Despite its efforts, it fails to simulate survival in a dystopian wasteland
Polygon (5/10):
Those inevitable wins felt empty, and that's really the biggest problem with Mad Max. The film franchise has always transcended the summer blockbuster genre, providing worlds and characters and scenarios that have stuck in my mind. Mad Max the game is the opposite; it's got chase scenes and big explosions and bloody fights, but nothing to remember it for. In spite of some annoying technical issues and questionable design, Mad Max is functional, but it's fluff, plain and simple.

Gamespot:
Mad Max's combat system is too dumbed down to enjoy, and repetitive activities such as searching for scrap and invading small enemy camps gets old fast. Mad Max offers some great experiences, but for a game that tries to impose the realities of survival on you, it does a poor job of following up on this pressure. Mad Max is too focused on providing you with an open-world that's filled with missions, and not focused enough on making those missions worth your time.

I wouldn't ever bother quoting Polygon's reviews to be honest, they gave TLOU a 7.5/10.

Still, the general consensus isn't overly glowing.

Watched a trailer and thought "this looks ****". Now I've just come across a review from IGN. Which has given it 8.6 irrc lol.

I wasn't going to get the game anyway. Just funny to see how much these scores vary.

Purchased it yesterday, only about 3 hours in, but enjoying it so far. Pretty smooth on the Xbox One, not noticed many frame drops to be honest...

Taken a punt on this one today. I know I'm in a minority here but the Metal Gear games do nothing for me so after watching videos and reading comments from people who actually bought the game I'm fairly confident this will be good.

I gave up on review sites years ago. I can pretty much accurately predict which games will score 9's and 10's on the likes of Gamespot and IGN now. Comments from people who bought this game have been very positive, as are the reviews on Steam.

One thing that annoys me...Gamespot moaned about the hand to hand combat but it's exactly the same as it was in the Batman games, yet I never saw them whinge about the combat in Arkham Knight. Personally, I think I'm gonna enjoy this one.

The PC version of this thread seems to have quite a lot of positive feedback, bodes well!

I've got both this and MGS sat at home waiting for me, i'm feeling the need to try this first.

Was really enjoying this, but encountered a game breaking bug that's preventing me from progressing the 'Wasteland Classic' mission. Really hope starting a new game is not the solution, as have already put 11-12 hours in :|

I decided to take the plunge on this...the gameplay looks good. So it is downloading now.

Not sure when i'll get to play it though, especially just after getting Gears Remastered and MSG V.

Played a few hours of this so far, enjoying it to this point.

The car battles are pretty awesome, and using the harpoon to pull wheels off, or drivers clean out of their car makes me smile every time!

im 8-10 hours in to mad max now. and i think im only about half way through, although i am trying to upgrade my car a lot so im constantly stopping the main story and doing side quests.

if you start playing this dont expect to be able to just drop it and pick up mgs5 any time soon.

Won't be a problem, my copy of MGS still hasn't rolled up yet :/

Playing this last night and was warned a storm was coming, I was chasing after a convoy at the time and in the distance I could see the sand storm creeping in, then it hit, was a pretty cool moment.

Did you get the lightning strikes as well? the first time I didn't the second I did and I was amazed.
