I've built a website using moon fruit. And after reading up about flash and google. Am I right in thinking it will never be found on search engines as it's flash. I've done all the meta tagging and also google webmaster tools. I pay per month for moon fruit and I've paid for two years for my domain name.

Can I get this to search in search engines. Or can I go elsewhere and learn HTML? as I have paid fort domain. Can I go elsewhere or am I stuck. Do I have to pay hosting? Again

don't take my word on this as i have no real experience with flash however from something i heard on these forums the other day google have recently got much better at going though flash sites so you may be ok if you have built the site correctly and it's been optimised as much as possible. links after all with really effect your serp any way.

it may be a good idea to learn html and then build a secondary site for those who can't view flash (silly iphone users :p) and then this'll help with your optimisation.

Thanks. Will try and re read the Internet then. As I have paid for my domain name. Is it case of. Going to a different hosting site and bringing my domain name with me?

i guess so, though i have no clue what rules moonfruit have with allowing you control etc. if they are decent (whcih most probably is the case) you can just point the domain name to whatever hosting account you have. if you need a quick response and a better informed one i recommend getting in touch with vidahost and sending them the question. sure they'll be able to better explain the rules and they usually reply within a couple hours on saturday evening :)

just a quick look and moonfruit allow you to transfer the domain easily....
so if you change to a different host and try something different that should be fairly easy.
however, are you happy with the site? if so, promotong it might be a better bet than just getting it indexed straight away with google etc. I believe that you need to research a bit more about getting your site onto google etc. and getting it promoted...
have you got a link to the site?

Thanks for all the advice.

Urm it's a business site. So don't think I can post a link. It's not linked to ocuk in anyway though. Ie it's not a competitor :)

think it's fairly safe to post a link as we're having a fair discussion about it. could be wrong but only time it's not allowed would be if say someone was to jump in and post a random link without any relevance to this thread.

Not to rub salt in the wounds, but Moon Fruit is generally a bad idea for any 'serious' business web site. There's x amount of security flaws, and not to mention you're goosed if your visitor doesn't have Flash.

Are you making use of their e-commerce system?

I think he means the business in question wouldn't want a link posting.

Be careful with a business site using flash, at least one that doesn't fail over for people without flash, as a consultant I spend the majority of my time out on client sites, and I'd say about half of the clients I visit have flash totally blocked on their client machines.

I'd be quite wary of creating business sites entirely using Flash. It doesn't index as well as bog-standard HTML, some businesses have it blocked, and it can be difficult to navigate and to link to. You might get away with it if it's a 'creative' business, but otherwise a good HTML/CSS/jQuery site is much more accessible.

Hi guys. Thanks for all the help. I have managed to get my hosting and domain sorted with vidahost. Just need to get the website built lol. That's the worst bit getting ripped off or someone doing a poor job :(
