Could someone explain what the lyrics in this song mean please?

I'm arguing that this should be GD because it entails 'literary analysis' and I know that there are a lot of people on here who might be able to help with this kind of thing.

The song is a Nick Drake song and its the title song on this album.

I can't work out what "I was made to love magic" means as in what is "magic" referring to in this song.

Thankyou in advance and if Mods think this should be in the Music forum then by all means please feel free to move it.

Haha, not heard the song but I feel the same way about loads more. A song that springs to mind at the moment is "elvis aint dead" by Scouting for girls. First their singing about a girl he's into, then he's singing about Elvis not being dead.....wtf has Elvis got to do with his chick?....Could just be an idiot for not getting it though.

Thanks dmpoole <3

Can you go into any more depth about this please? It makes sense now tho "I was made to love magic" as in I was forced to go out with Magic. Slightly different from what I was thinking of though: I believed it had more to do with his inner turmoil than with a relationship.
Incidentally was it a failed one? Also did he write any more songs about girlfriends?

I love Nick Drake's music and his lyrics are beautiful.

I think that is saying it's unlikely she'll come back to him...so he's kinda fooling himself. At least that's what I thought.

cause Elvis ain't dead (he is)
and you're coming back (she isn't)
and Elvis ain't dead
and you're coming back

Also if possible could someone or dmpoole go through the meanings and concepts as a whole of Pink Moon [the song as well as the album if you've time] as its such a short album but has so so much meaning within which someone my age will almost certainly miss

Thanks

It's because he's kidding himself that Elvis isn't dead, and that the girl would come back to him.

And it's crap btw :)

*edit*
damn you caboodle!

Be quiet.

Sorry, just seemed quite funny, I would also like some help figuring out Pink Moon, so please, carry on. In fact, if you could offer up some explanation to:

For I am the parasite of this town.
And take a look you may see me in the dirt
For I am the parasite who hangs from your skirt.

I'd be very appreciative :) It's another Nick Drake song, off Pink Moon, called Parasite.

Thanks dmpoole :)

According to my research the reason he calls himself a parasite is that he used to be a man whore and alcoholic who was very well known around his town for it.
He would chat anything up in a skirt and hit it.

I so wouldn't expect him to be like that from the way he sings!!!!!!

I didn't realise you were such a big Nick Drake fan too! :):D

Got any more cool info about him!?!?!
