This is again a sexual reference.
In some sex houses there is a rotating table that they call a wheel.
A lady will lie on her back and the men will rotate the wheel having goes and turns.
I think thats the song where he says he doesn't know her name, she doesn't know his, he takes it fast and takes it slow to put on a show etc.
 
lol. Cant believe Nick Drake was such a fiend.
I always thought he was painfully shy and thus made a [with hindsight] churlish assumption about his character.
But Rider on the Wheel is such a great song and now I know what its about its sort of spoiled it for me :(
Would you say that most of his albums focus around this kind of material? Eg Five Leaves Left and Bryter Later?

Now you mention that, I do remember hearing something about that while chatting to a mate about Nick Drake, didn't actually think it was true! Crazy.
