Maestro in America

Well im off to America in October with my girlfriends family. Will i be OK to take my Maestro debit card to withdraw money as i don't hold a credit card and want to avoid having one if possible.

and i know you dont want one but safer to use a credit card imo

i don't think i would get accepted, ive never had credit before in my life so that might be an issue.

I used my maestro (Natwest) without any problems but i dont know how much i was being charged for it, i only had to do it once

I used my HSBC maestro in the states last summer for withdrawing money, obviously you get charged each time so you're probably best making a few large withdrawals rather than whenever you need money. They wont accept maestro in the shops over there though.
