Hi,

Does anyone have any experience with Magento? I am looking for a company who will install it + lots of extensions for me and then give it a good design.

Any recommended companies to go for?

I've previously been a customer of Interspire but from what i can see the community make a lot more useful addons for Magento. Are there any downsides?

I have noticed some very slow Magento loading sites and i know this has plagued it from day 1, is there a solution to this now?

Thanks!

The solution is to throw hardware at the problem.

Magento works best on dedicated hosting, coupled with PHP as DSO and opcode caching. Plenty of disk i/o is important for the number of SQL queries and file includes it does on every page load.

That's not to say good quality shared hosting can't run Magento acceptably, it absolutely can - but for best results, if you have the budget look for a provider that knows how to optimise a hosting environment for Magento.

Thanks for that. Budget is not so much a problem, do you have any provides you could recommend?

I am setting up a business at the moment, from unemployed to self-employed with no finance and I am useless with web development, I need a site for my business, Does anybody know anybody cheap or willing to help me setup one? I saw some options of £30 a month for a online shop but Id much rather not commit to it.

don't know if that's to do with latency because of server location though.

Latency is a big issue with Magento because each page load makes a lot of calls to various images and stylesheets, so you could always consider using a hosting provider that places their servers geographically near to the majority of your customers.

You could also try using a CDN for distributing images, javascript and stylesheets which would probably have a similar effect. :)

That's slower than the one I run that's on shared hosting - don't know if that's to do with latency because of server location though.

It loads in 0.4seconds after the first load of each page. First loads is around 2.5s. Pretty impressed if yours is much faster.

I don't know where the server is located, but it's taking 1.5s+ for every page load (as you say, first is the worst). I was going to make a screencast but I cba :p
