If i leave bacon in the fridge am i in danger of opening the fridge to some little visitors. Ive left some bacon in my Uni fridge and my dad reckons that when i return the fridge is going to be be full of maggots. Now surely for maggots to get there flies need to lay eggs on the meat?
 
Flies would need to get in and lay eggs unless the meat had already been infested with fly eggs
 
haha hes just winding you up, it wont be very pretty depending on how long its been in there but there certainly wont be any maggots provided the fridge is still on!
 
It will probably go a deep red/purple and dry up, may have a little mould but I doubt it will be too pongy
 
3 week old bacon arrr as a fellow student I advise you to consume this lovely feast, it will be fine honestly!

But definalty no maggots or anything of the sort, probably no mould either, just off colour and funny textured.
 
The bacon will go off and stink but you wont get maggots as you need flys, maybe get a house mate to open the fridge if you want to achieve this :)

NO maggots, it would probably be fine to eat as well, although might just taste a bit wierd. It won't rot in 3 weeks assuming the fridge stays on. So not even worth a 20mile journey let alone 200 miles. Well it would be worth a 20mile journey if you got to eat it i suppose.
 
It'll probably just dry up and shrivel up a bit while smelling a little stinky. No maggots will be there.

For comparison, when I was at Uni one of my flatments never bothered to wash up often. When we had to move out at the end of the year he decided to do it. There was this plate that had sat on the side at the bottom of the washing up pile which never got delt with until now. He moved the over the plates covering it to reveal what appear to be either a large flattened piece of beef or bacon that had be there for weeks or even months. It had gone very dark with green/brown slime around the sides but surprisingly didn't smell that bad and had no mold.

depends on the maggots, some eat living some eat dead tissue ;)
