mail server

hi guys,
my friends have 3 pc's connected to a file server running win2k pro server. What they need is to be able to access the same mail box via outlook at the same time eg. [email protected].

Am i right in saying i can setup a mail server on their current file server and just point each version of outlook to that mail box. So when an email is sent or recieved all three of them will have it on their machine.

I suppose you wish all users to be able to see all emails without them being downloaded to each PC so your solution at the top should work(hopefully

Yeah that should work as long as you select 'leave a copy of message on server' on each of the outlook clients.

You'll need to install something like exchange... it's gonna cos you.

An alternative you be if their mail hosting company supports IMAP.

stupid question but i think i know the answer is exchange yet another version of windows server?

No it installed on top of Windows Server

I use hMailServer : http://www.hmailserver.com/ for my home stuff - it can do POP3 SMTP and IMAP.
