main differences between AMD and INTEL?

I'm awaiting delivery of my new system. Went the AMD route and got the 955BE cpu. I know an i7 system would only have been a couple of hundred pounds more, and it is undeniably a faster chip, but I want to support the little guy. Without AMD, Intel would undoubtedly be able to charge whatever they wanted for their chips. And please don't tell me they wouldn't up their prices. We've seen the (illegal lengths) Intel will go to attempt to protect their profits. With AMD around Intel has to at least pay lip service to value for money.

Yeah, I know I sound like some stupid hippy, but then that's because I am. I'm buying AMD and sticking it to the (Intel) Man.

Intel free since 386. :)

granted they are both fast but that still doesnt change that amd are low end value for money yes they have AMD Black Edition Quad which is great for games but now compare that to other tasks? see where im getting at dont get me wrong amd are awesome value for money and yes gaming wise they are up there with the rest but still they are value for money and thats what there market is aimed at.

then again the way i look at things is high end being the best of the best.

AMD is level with intel Q9550-Q9650 which are not lowend.
Value for money is value for money & does not mean lowend.
They are both highend CPU & of course one will be faster than the other.
The encoding task are insignificant to what the majority use CPUS for & the AMD does encoding more than fast enough.

You really have to stops seeing things black & white with fastest & everything else is slow lowend because the i7 720 is not the fastest Intel ether the Intel Core i7 975 is & you bought one of those i guess.
The majority of Intel users on this forum do not own i7 & they don't consider there CPU to be lowend.
