Main Memory Upgrade on Ancient MoBo?

Hi folks,

I have a Gigabyte GA-K8NSNXP-939 motherboard, currently packing a meaty 1GB in the form of two 512 sticks.

I use this machine for working, so often have a dozen browser tabs, text editors, terminal windows, wireshark and so forth running, and I'm sick of conky telling me the RAM is full and the Swap isn't looking so great.

My problem is, I can't remember what kind of RAM this motherboard takes. I remember the FSB is 800MHz (I think), which would lead me to think that PC2-6400 would work, but the motherboard specs say that the max RAM is 4GB, this seems to conflict as DDR2 comes in 2GB sticks and the board has 4 slots, is this a DDR1 board?

I run 64bit linux so there shouldn't be a software cap on memory.

Thanks all, I thought this would be easy to look up but it's the conflicting information that has me hesitating before spending money.
