I currently have x2 4-5 year old 256gb SATA HDD's that seem to be in working order, I want to take advantage of them and use them.

Seems however that when I ran a defrag on them it reported back 43% fragmentation on one and 32% on the other, google says this is a lot but after a defrag it only reduced them both to around 25%.

Does it normally take several runs?

It's really not worth worrying about too much. There may just not be enough free space to defragment them completely.

Is there actually data on the drives you care about? If not just wiping them will solve all of your fragmentation problems.

Funny enough I have already wiped them, the footprint from the previous files must still be there somehow...lol.

I am running another pass to check it over.

If you've got fragmented files on an empty partition something very strange is going on.

Did you delete any existing partitions and start from scratch?

Pretty sure I have, formatted a drive more times than I can count, they were formatted about 2-3 days ago and since then I have installed quite a few things but I don't see how that would give almost 50% fragmentation on one of the drives.

EDIT: For the record I want to try this whole RAID jazz with the, never done it before and since I have them to spare, why not!
