Major BT Internet problem please help

The router is saying that the connection is 6500kbps but im only able to download at 54kbps. Been through all the usual crap that bt test with and no joy. Im direct into the main socket with nothing else connected and we had another router sent through with no joy. Ive tried 2 computers, one on xp and my laptop on windows 7. Every speedtest says the same thing. Its as though its being throttled somewhere.
Please help
 
Well then you can be 95% sure it's nothing at your end. Maybe you have old wiring outside your house that has deceided to give way a bit too much, who knows, sounds more like and outside problem though.

Is it wirless or wired?
 
The engineer has been round and its showing to him that its connected at 6meg etc and the router thinks its at the right speed but it sure aint
 
Had a similar problem. Phoned India several times, no joy. I emailed [email protected] told him my problems and
was passed on to a UK engineer.
He made a few checks on my line. said there was a problem and arranged for a BT engineer visit.
Engineer traced a fault to the exchange and an old phone extension, which was disconnected. so far so good, I hope!! fingers crossed!! prey!!

Would i be within my rights to cancel during my contract as bt are not delivering the package im paying for. All i get when i phone up is some asian who i can understand at the best of times and nothing is getting done
