Major Hardware upgrade without re-installing W10?

So I went and built my new rig today. My old SSD with my Windows 10 installation went into the new rig and booted fine. I just want to do a fresh install onto the M.2 WITHOUT using a bootable image of Windows... but I'm not sure if the "Refresh PC" or "Refresh" features let you install to a new drive. Anyone know if the only way to do a fresh install on a different SSD in the same system is through using a bootable image or ... ?

It just refreshes the current installation on the installed drive. You cant use it to move it to another.

Thank you, I suppose I can end my multi-hour search on the subject

Will be making a bootable USB stick tomorrow and a fresh install :)

As per the title, is there any chance of me swapping out my current Haswell rig with a new Skylake-X one without having to re-install Windows 10?

If you have a spare hdd you can install Windows 7/8 on the Skylake-X rig, then upgrade to 10, then the hardware will be preregistered when you swap the drives over. Should be able to get it to validate no issue.
