Hi all,
Right, had my new comp delivered on wednesday. it has been overclocked to 3.4 however it came without an os so i installed vista ultimate 64bit.

Since then i have installed 4 games RA3, Fallout 3, Farcry 2, WOW and all but red alert have had serious stablity problems often resulting in the comp just completely locking up with no hope of rescue.

As far as i can tell i have installed and updated everything can anyone think of something i could have missed, which my cause the problem?

its the rig in sig so i have a 1200 with all fans on full so i dont think its over heating but i could be wrong..

Any help would be hugely apperciated.

Try running prime or Orthos to check for stability or drop your overclock and see how that goes.

With overclocking, especially probably without any real testing, (which requires lot of time) nearly any important component could be source of instability.

Would remove the overclock and try the system at stock, at least that way you will be able to test all your components at stock.

had a feeling you might all say that. the overclock was done by a professional builder so i would have hoped that it would be a tried and tested config - although i know every part is always lightly different.

running prime now see what i get from that otherwise its back to stock :(

Testing of overclocking stability thoroughly would take at least day... and I doubt shops have much time for that.
(and small forgotten thing like unlocked PCI/PCIe bus clock could cause problems)

Have you checked Event Viewer for possible signs of crashing driver/software?

Try Intel Burn Test, unlike Prime it's optimized for stressing CPU.

Of course running 3dMark would also stress graphic card if there's something in that/drivers. Also FurMark would stress graphic card heavily.

I tried prime last night, it ran cpu at 100% no probs at all.

i have already run 3dmark a couple of times with absolutely no problems.

The more i think about it RA3 is fine, farcry is now fine after patch, falllout is better but still buggy, but a lot of people are complaining about that. and wow was never installed just copied from my 32bit machine and run so it might just be that....

Its possible i am just panicing over nothing, so i am going to reinstall wow and do some serious stress testing with farcry see how it goes.

also going to try intel burn

Just downloaded everest and intel burn... if the cpu starts to heat up at what temp should i get worried and stop... its sitting at 21 with no load

Thanks
