Major Inventions

I'll take your word for it, I can't be arsed to read the huge wiki entry for batteries.

What's what I mean called? I don't think my idea of invention is the same as everybody elses.
Nobody is wrong, it's just two opposite views of what an invention is.

You can't store electricity IIRC.
Dont capacitors though? - obviously only for a relatively short finite amount of time and cant maintain this as they eventually discharge...

Just being devils advocate...

This thread revival is a good invention? :p

Steam. Imitations of it don't come close. So easy to use, supports the small developers, keeps everything up to date for you, etc.

I wouldn't say mobile phones belong on the list, they are just a mash of existing technology (a phone, a radio, and pocket computer put together).

It's not even in the same league as something like the internal combustion engine, aircraft, railways, batteries.

There's things society can live without (like mobile phones, social media) and things it needs (like electricity).

Clocks, calendars and glasses to help people read dates.

Also, the OP's username is probably one of the most appropriate I've seen on here.

For me, GPS is one of the best inventions. It's incredible that it can use satellites so far above the earth's surface to pinpoint an exact location. The devices are so small too.

Google search engine has to be up there too.

If we're excluding improvements on old inventions, then surely the wheel doesn't count?

After all it's just an improved version of rolling things on logs!
