Rampage 2 extreme

Intel core i7(only thing bought form ebay, but came sealed, box was a bit damaged)

XFX ATI Radeon HD 5770 XXX Edition 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Patriot Viper 12GB (6x2GB)

corsair 750w
,
my problem is that the computer randomly shuts down, ive tested the ram 100% fine, the psu, i used the pin test as said on corsair website, i sent the motherboard back believing it was problem, overclockers said it was fine, i took it too shop thye said motherboard, but i know it isnt. I dont know is it the cpu thtas all thats left :(, i have no more money to trow around buying a new cpu to test my theory out.
Any help??
(problem from moment turn on, expect when first turned on stayed on about 1-3 hours, then it shuts down no warnings, no retsart, i get depressed and sick thinking about my 1500 i spent on this :( )
i know this is free so greatly appreciate any help, thanks a mill even if it dont fix the problem, i love u if it does

Update:I ask intel they say 1600mhz memory isnt compatible with intel core i7920, that may be cause of random shutdowns, only DDR3-800/1066 ram is compatible, I now know i need to overclock the cpue to atleats 3.2 to get ram to work, but how do i do that if comp shuts down :/ and will it work....

What happens when you only use 3 x 2gb memory.

Just wrapping my brains to think of any problems which may course the shutdown!!

Temps, what is the CPU when operational.

Strange that it takes a few hours to get to a point that it shuts down. Leave speedfan and the CCC open and monitor temps to see if there's anything that would cause the thing to fail.

Is there any overclock on the I7?

No i was gonna but then shutdowns, and inside the case is cold, like colder than the weather we have now, and i did everything temps are all avg., it shuts down if the systems under stress or not, :I

It is, you might have to adjust some timings with the ram, but plenty of people have run memory at 1600mhz.

Few things to check quickly.

Your 12v connector - the one from your PSU, have a look and check to see if all the little metal pins are seated correctly as well as the wires going into the connector. They do come loose from time to time.

Then, check and see if your CPU cooler is correctly mounted. I would actually remove it and re-seat the cooler. What you are describing is possibly a bad mount and it is only going to cause you grief is a certain core is stressed. Use any of the CPU loading application out there in on the web and see what happens when you stress all four at once. Keep a sharp eye on your temps and if you see one or two cores rocket then you know what is causing the issue.

It is really hard, and I mean really really hard to kill a CPU and if it does prove to be your CPU you can effect an RMA with Intel Europe quite easily. You do not have to go back to the person you bought it from you just go direct. I am sure there is a UK phone number too.

That just shutting down is what is making me think it is a thermal caused shut down. Always assuming you have eliminated conclusively your PSU as being possible cause??
