Good afternoon,

The components for my htpc arrived last wednesday and I got around building it yesterday.

I put everything together and I believed I had done it all correctly. I have been using an anti-static wrist strap and been working on a table as opposed to carpet.

I went to connect my computer (finished) to my TV via hdmi and pressed the power button waiting for the moment of truth but nothing happened.

I press the power button and not even the fans twitch. I am assuming this is something relatively major I have done wrong at some stage. I have tried plugging it in to a different wall socket...nothing. I have double checked the psu is on and tried most things I can think of.

Any suggestions?

All your help is much appreciated as this was not cheap and I dont want my hardwork to go to waste.

I have pictures of the wiring and the inside of the case and these can be provided if neccesary. (Excuse the wiring its not the prettiest thing in the world)

The spec is:

i3 540 3.06ghz
4gb ocz gold ddr3 1333mhz
gigabyte h55m-ud2h
scythe shuriken cpu cooler
1tb hdd
samsung blu ray drive

THANKS GUYS!

switched the wall socket on?

is there a power switch on the back of the psu?

plugged the 24pin and either a 4/8pin atx near the cpu socket?

double check the front panel connectors are in the motherboard header the correct way?

Front Panel Connection sounds most likely/common, power button not wired up correctly. Less likely but it is possible your PSU is just a dud! Fingers crossed it's just something simple

Im making a flickr album at the moment and will edit this post accordingly when its done uploading..

stulid:

I have double checked all you suggested, and still to no avail. But thanks for your input nonetheless.

Spoogle:

The only connections I have made in regards to the power button are through the positive and negative connector on the mobo where the led's go also.. I have double checked this is on the right pins and the right way round. Cheers though. Im sure hoping its not the psu as its a 380 watt antec one that came with the case. Im sure its sufficent power though.

True Scotsman:

In regards to spacers do you mean the tall bronze/silver things you screw into the bottom of the case then lay the mobo on them and screw the mobo screws into them?

Is there a power button on the Motherboard itself? Are there any lights/LEDs on the Motherboard at all and do these come on when the PSU is on?

I see from your sig you have another system. I appreciate it would be a long process but try using that PSU and the power button on your 300. Easiest way to eliminate either problem.

Yeah I would try another PSU if you have one to hand. Even if you didnt hook up the power button right there should at least be an LED on the board that should light up, or so I would have thought.

Sounds like a dud PSU to me... have you tried jump-starting it?
(use a paperclip or similar to bridge two terminals on the 24-pin connector - the one with the green wire to any of the black ones).

Before you do that, check that the front panel button actually works. (Just bridge the pins the switch is connected to on the motherboard).

What I will try is bridging the pins first as suggested. Then if that does work I know its the power button. If that doesnt I may swap out the psu and try that.

Thankyou for your suggestions although if there are anymore from looking at the pictures then please feel free to contribute.

Yeah thats the ones i mean, do you have them installed?

Right well, back we are.

Here is what I have tried.

*Bridge pins for power switch
*swapped power cables
*quadruple checked all cables
*checked positives and negatives on front panel connections

Options available now are:

Get a new case/psu (it was a bundle - 380 eco watts - one of those antec ones. sufficent power however)
OR
(don't really want to) swap out psu from main system to check.

suggestions?

This is really stressing me out and it doesn't help my dad is wondering where his birthday present is. His birthday was the 11th of Jan and this was meant to be his present :/

However, I trust in overclockers and I don't know what I would do without you, so. I thank you.
