hi all iam posting this for a mate who lives abroad, his just done a new build and this is whats happening to him

Alright, so heres the deal. I've connected the entire PC with the cables and so on.. I start the bugger up and it runs fine. Now, Problem: After 20-30 secs it just stops (ie shuts down).

List of specs:

Motherboard: EVGA nForce 650i Ultra 775 T1
Ram: Corsair XMS 2 DDR (4 sticks x 1 GB)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo
GPU: Gainward BLISS 8600 GTS PCX Golden Sample
PSU: Corsair HX520W
HDD: Samsung 500GB 3.5"
DVD-ROM: NEC

The deal is, I've checked without the GPU, some of the RAM sticks and the HDD and DVD, and it still doesn't work. Hence, I reckon it's the Motherboard that isn't working

Also, I got it working once, by clearing the CMOS, but after reattaching the HDD, the DVD, and the rest of the ram (only used one of the sticks) I went back to the same problem

all help will be grateful ;)

1. Check all your power connectors to the motherboard
<retry>
2. Check the CPU HSF (heatsink and fan) is correctly fitted, sounds like it is overheating to me. Take it off, and put it on again.

i've spoken to the person concerned and hes confirmed it was the heatsink causing the problem, been seated properly and the thing is working.
