Major Rebuild - Mixed Use - Maybe Micro ATX? - Spec Check / Advice Please!

Corsair Enthusiast Series TX550M High Performance 550W '80 Plus Bronze' Modular Power Supply (CP-9020001-UK)

How old is this? Could you replace it with a SFX-L PSU? And take the opportunity to consolidate your HDDs down to one. Doing both would give you many more options.

having more than one (or two) 3.5" spinning rust is going the way of the dodo these days.
considered a NAS?

Have pretty much come round to that idea. My 2TB drive is actually a 3TB I realised last night. May just keep that for this machine and set up a NAS. Any suggestions??!

The p400 is a compact case, relatively.
And you won't be restricted to micro ATX motherboards.

Yes and no. For an ATX case, maybe. For a mATX - not really? Quite happy with mATX - so I can have a small case! :)

It's about 5 years old I think. It's actually a 520W.

==========

So, now all I need is a sensible, reasonable looking, smallish, mATX case that takes 1 or maybe 2 3.5" drives. Presumably I now have lots of good options?!

Then it had a 5 year warranty, so now is the time to replace it.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I like the Fractal Design Meshify and Focus Mini G but the Bitfenix Phenom MATX Cube and Rajintek Styx are the ones for you if you want colour.

Definitely no colours!

Minimalist rather than anything else.

And more budget than premium!

just had a bright idea!

5.25" to 3.5" bay converter.
boom! can mount three 3.5" spinning rust hdds :)
(or four 3.5" drives if you want to get a second bay converter for the second 5.25" bay)

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £617.64 (includes shipping: £11.70)

You may find that you don't need a bay converter: the bay may already have screw points. But a tenner is a small price to pay for knowing you'll be able to complete the build without delay.

You might want to spring the extra £20 for 3600 MHz DRAM and that case will fit a longer GPU so you may find a twin fan card quieter.

@Quartz hah, yeah. not quite sure why i didn't think of a spec using a bay converter earlier!
Lol - might have saved a bit of time :) But at least the important thing is that you did get there! Thanks - although I'd almost given up on the idea and even now, still might! Partly because I like the look of the Citadel case! Pertly 'cos seriously looking at sorting a NAS.

Any suggestions?
i wouldn't bother really. gtx 1660 is a power sipping card so a single fan solution should be adequate
besides, the cheapest dual fan 1660 is £210...so the below applies:

1660 is about 10% faster than a 590
590 is £170-£180 when on sale
Ergo I wouldn't pay more than £200 for a 1660.

I like the look of the Citadel case
it is a decent looking case isn't it :P
and has tempered glass as well

focus g mini isn't that bad, and it ticks all the right boxes (albeit acrylic instead of tempered glass)

OK, so been a bit busy, but now looking to finish this off. So far, ordered:
synology ds218j seems to be reasonably well recommended for a 2 bay nas
Also read up on NAS and have ordered one of these ^^^, plus
  • 2 x 4 TB WD Red HDD
Since the GTX 1660 Super has just been leaked, it's an easy wait.
This is due out tomorrow, so will see what happens. If nothing else, might hopefully push costs of non-super down a bit! But will order either a 1660 (+/- super) or 590 in next couple of days.

Also thinking about starting with a 'fresh build' so adding:
  • Sabrent 1TB Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2 2280
And then loosing the 2x 1TB HDDs and keeping only the:
  • 1x WB Blue 3TB HDD
and maybe the:
  • 1x Samsung 256GB SSD 830
But not totally sure what I'd use if for? Just doesn't seem worth throwing it away!

So, now looking at case options. Need to fit: mATX board etc, 1x Rocket, 1x 3.5" HDD and maybe 1x 2.5" SSD.

I still quite like the look of the Kolink Citadel. Sleek, fairly plain and simple. I don't need or particularly want a window, but can live with one. Is there anything else I should now be looking at with my greatly reduced number of HDDs?!! If not, happy to order the Citadel.

Cheers.

just stick it on gumtree

i doubt it...i think it'll slot in 20 qud more expensive than the 1660. again at these kinds of price points (590/1660/1660ti/1660 super) it's all about the price/performance ratio

think everything's about right on where i'd spec.
