ive reported this a few times on ocuk, basically sometimes my pc will suddenly show lines of colour down the screen, and the only way to stop it is to turn off the pc, sometimes it cannot be turned on again for several hours

all im wanting to know is what different parts of the pc could cause this? im thinking of upgrading and id like to know that i will fix the problem in doing so

That sounds like video corruption. Like scan lines running horizontal/vertical along the screen?

One thing I forgot to ask is when does this occur? After a session of gaming? Or randomly? That looks like the video card overheating. If you're definitely sure that it's not the card overheating - check the PSU and the rail readings to ensure that your PSU has sufficient power. What graphics card is it and what PSU rating is it?

When you say "cannot be turned on again", do you mean it doesn't boot?

it happens at random times, its happened whilst loading up, its happened whilst playing games and also whilst just browsin tinternet
i also monitored the temps with rivatuner during a crash and the temps are fine. but occasionly rivatuner seems to register it spiking to 110C for about a second which i find odd

also i get this whilst running games:

[edit] by does not turn on, i mean i turn the pc on and the screen turns on after a delayed period of time but is black, and it stays like that for a while, sometimes it then boots sometimes it stays like that for hours

nope no overclocking

perhaps the card is broken from a while ago when it ran at 100C for about a month untill i cleaned it?

From what I've seen, it looks like the card is at fault. But you could always try another PSU and see if it removes the issue. If it doesn't - then it's probably the card which requires an RMA I'm afraid.

I've just recently had to RMA my mainboard, 3x graphics card and a monitor. :( - irrelevant though. :)

i think ill just upgrade, get a new motherbaord, pci-e card and a new psu sorted :)

can anyone suggest good stuff to get? id quite like an x1800 or equivalent for around 250-300, the cheaper the cheerier :)

You can get a X1900XT for £240-£260. :)

if you will be overclocking the go for a dfi mobo...for psu I would suggest an antec....

However what are the specs of your current system? cuz last thing you wanna do is go paying out for a new mobo, gpu and psu and then have to upgrade your psu as well...

alternatively u may wanna consider getting a new rig and going down the conroe road now?
