Major Upgrade problems

I recently bought a GA-MA720 mobo and Phenom x2 550,and was well happy when the delivery man came...i put it all together and fired it up,waiting to be impressed by my upgrade, but it'll very rarely boot, and even when it does i get a quick, unreadable bsod after leaving the bios :(

I've tried everything to get it work....a different Psu,1 or 2 sticks of ram,i've double checked all the plugs, cleared the cmos etc,but nothing will make it work properly. It seems as though its resetting itself every 4-5 seconds,i get the little startup sound from the HDD,and the disk drive will automaticly closes itself if open.I'm running it on a Trust 570w psu, which i assume as ample power.

I bought a a little mobo status speaker ( it didn't come equipped with one ) and i'm getting a long beep followed by a short beep, which is a mobo error according to the manual, but i've bought it new so i guess it may be faulty?

If anyone as any advice or solutions to my problem i'd be very grateful,as it'll save me the hasle of having to RMA it.

Cheers

:)

Try setting up and booting it outside of the case if you haven't already, that should eliminate the possibility of anything shorting on the case.

To be honest I don't much like the sound of that power supply, but I don't really know anything about it so I won't judge it too badly, it 'should' have enough power to fire up the basics of a duel core system even if it's only got half it's rated power output anyway.

If possible, it's a good idea to test each component in another system before drawing any firm conclusions. Eventually this will bring you back to the motherboard of course.

Cheers guys... trying to boot it out side the case is the only thing i haven't tried yet,i have tried it with just the minimum ( cpu, ram.gfx ) and i still have the same problem.I haven't got any way of testing them in a different pc as i'm currently using an Intel. The fans are all working cpu,gfx and psu,but the only thing that gets warm is the chipset heatsink.

As for the Psu,i know it's not the most powerful, but it currently runs my Pentium D dual core and Gigabyte mobo fine.

Anyway i'll try all your ideas and let you know how it goes.

Oh 570w is plenty, more than plenty infact, at least if it's a realistic approximation of the sustained capabilities of that psu, which I suspect it isn't, more likely it's what it is capable of in very short bursts under ideal conditions. Then again, I could be wrong. But as you say, it works fine, so I doubt that is the issue.

I've tried booting it out of the case and still no joy,so it can't be a shorting issue... i've tried it with different ram,Gfx card and Psu and it doesn't change a thing :(

Thanks for the help, but it seems it'll have to be sent back.
