Hey all,

I asked yesterday, if all my chosen components would go, but it seems that some of you feel I might be able to archive a better PC with the same budget.

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=7788267

Above is a list of the components I was going to get.

Please note that I have ALREADY purchased; Case, PSU and Hard Drive - These can not be replaced!

PSU - 580W Hiper Type-R Blue
HD - 300GB Maxtor D/Max +10 SATA [16MB]
Case - Aspire X-Cruiser Blue

I now need; CPU, RAM, Motherboard, Graphics card, Optical Drive, Operating System.

I have a budget of around £700 - £800

I mostly use the PC for gaming and web design / coding.

Thanks,

Marky

That case, is this the small one? Is it alright if that is changed, as coolers etc might not fit in, but i will have a look.

Edit: Unless you really like it - i would change that case, just looked at it. But upto you.

Okay, i know its £50ish over budget, but this is a kickass system and has a lot of future inside it. If you cant go over budget i would drop the X1900XT and get a X1800XT for a few months, till next year and then either crossfire it..or buy a DX10 Card. If it was me, id buy the X1800XT But here goes...

I've looked at everything in that spec and it looks great to me. Apart from the graphics card, I was going to get the 7800 GTX 512Mb, and I still wanted to check the tests between the X 1900 XT and it looks like the 7800 GTX 512 out performed it by quite a bit.

Would I be able to use the 7800 GTX 512 in that system?
Also, I really shouldn't go over the £800 budget, so I may have to take something down a notch.

Well if im not mistaken, im pretty sure a X1800XT even takes over a 7800 GTX? To be quite honest, id either get the X1800XT or the X1900XT - because with DX10 around the corner, you just need something to run smoothly till then, and get a DX10 Card .. a few months after they're out. But im not sure. To be honest - its upto you when it comes to the gfx card. if you got the X1800XT it would drop the price by about £70 or so.

Be warned, that RAM MAY not work with that motherboard, mine didn't with my DS4. Take a look in the motherboard section for supported RAM.

Do you have a benchmark test with X1800XT and the X1900XT. Maybe also with the 7800 GTX 512?

They don't sell it on OcUK but on a different site it's: £264.52 that inc.Vat
Well to be honest with you - a X1800XT is by far the best value card.. It does get out preformed by the 7800gtx granted, but for about half the price..its not THAT overpowered. I mean you save money on the whole budget - and have the freedom to save some money for DX10 to give your Rig the extra 'kick' when they are out. Personally, id get the x1800xt as it offers enough power as it is.

Okey I've taken another look at the benchmarks and you and the tests have convinced me :p

Which X1800XT would you recommend?

The top one on the list, its on this week only too.

I mean to be honest, it will run games on high for atleast 6 months. You can then start saving money (as you already have) to get a nice DX10 card..a few months after they are out (better generation stuff) and then you have a kickass set up with the rig you're going to buy.
