Hi,

I have an oldish pc. Its a Amd 64 3200+ on a DFI lanparty n250gb motherboard. I also have a x800xt pe

I use the PC mainly for streaming video to my Xbx 360. It serves its purpose well but its too damn noisy.

I would like to get a fanless cooling solution for the CPU and the GPU. I'm not too clued up on them and I obviously dont want something thats going to let my cards fry.

Has anyone got any suggestions for me?

Thanks!

You could change your fans to quiet ones?
Also you can get like carpet to stick on the inside of your case which reduces noise.

1. Replace your case fans with Silent ones (120mm low RPM) and get a fan controller to reduce their speed
2. Get a better and more silent CPU cooler
3. Get a Zalman or Actic Cooling for your video card

thanks mate! You've been very helpful. I'll definately pick those up!

No problem mate. I've been given plenty of help here so it's nice to give a little back.

Goodluck :)

You should not need to replace anything if your fans are 3pin.

Get a hold of speedfan and just let it automanage the fanspeeds.

My x2 4200+ runs 36 degrees idle at 1424rpm (freezer64 pro hsf) (about 1100rpm for the akasa 120mm case fan too) - the gfx card fan throttles itself down when idle too so that's quiet.

Speedfan rocks :)

try googling 'quiet' & 'pc'. should come up with some helpful sites
don't you reckon thats a bit close to mentioning a competitor? Anyway in terms of silencing a pc, first work out what makes the most noise in the case which you can do by removing each plug in term whilst it is on so u can hear the difference (chipset fans are usually the worst), although don't blame me if you actually disconntect something else accidently. If you find out which is noisiest then you can work to replace the noisiest fans first.

Fan controllers are v.good for silencing or speedfan will do the same if compatible with mobo (it doesn't seem to be for me :( ), for cpu hsf I find the zalman hsf quiet as well, also a cheap psu may be noisy, also make sure all screws are securely in place as this can help stop vibrations.

Speedfan works fine on the A8N series as it is working on mine! just make sure ACPI is enabled in the BIOS and that your windows sees "computer" in device manager as an ACPI system

Well, I just picked up a cooler master cool drive 6 which controls 3 fans and helps keep the HD noise down quite nicely (was damn cheap too, £12!).

For coolers I would say get the Scythe Ninja for the CPU and Thermalright HR-03 for the graphics. Fit the scythe 1200rpm fan onto the case and lower it to around 700-800 rpm and fit a low speed 92mm fan onto the graphics cooler (Also lower to around 800 rpm with the cool drive). Should be damn close to silent.
