Hi looking to upgrade and I’m confused by the different price points for GpU , specifically the 4060ti 8gb . I understand that the OC version is more expensive but why do the standard prices vary so much by manufacturer? Is there any difference in performance between them or do I just get the cheapest 4060ti I can afford ? Thanks

I'm a big fan of Zotac who offer a 5 year warranty if registered within 30 days otherwise it's 3 years

Minimal performance diffrence in Overclocked GPUs and some come with better cooling as you go up in price

Manufacturers divide their models into tiers. The basic model is often based on the reference design and has just enough components and cooling to do the job. With the lowest tier cards, they can sometimes be noisy under load and have higher temperatures for their VRM and memory. They also support very limited overclocking.

The next tier models may have better PCBs, improved cooling, or both, which leads to quieter operation and lower temperatures. They may have more bling (LEDs, shiny things) and more robust packaging and accessories.

The highest tier models will have custom PCBs and overpowered coolers, which get you the best temperatures (which usually address everything on the card, whereas on the cheapest models they leave some important components with minimal, or no cooling) and the quietest operation. Switches are quite common, so that you can change between performance and quiet modes. At this level, they use things like vapor chambers and water cooling, but can be so expensive that their price approaches the next card above them (e.g. the highest tier 4070 Ti would be near a 4080).

OC models can be any price, but the OC is usually very small, just enough to put it ahead in benchmarks. If you care about overclocking, you'll want to check the power limits too, since these are a ceiling on how far you can go.

With the 4060 Ti, my opinion is that paying too much would be silly, because of two reasons:
1. It is still only an 8GB card and doesn't perform much better than the 3060 Ti, which is cheaper.
and
2. You'll get near the price of the 16GB version, or even the 4070, which are better cards.

P.S. "quietest operation" doesn't include coil whine, you can still get that even on the best models.

Frankly I'd say the 4060ti is a terrible purchase in almost any circumstance.

You can get a 6700XT for £299 at the moment, and it comes with a copy of Starfield to boot, even if you don't want to play the game you can sell it on to recoup £30-40.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £307.98 (includes delivery: £7.99)

Thanks I was just a little concerned at the power required for the 6700xt but I could always undervolt I guess
