Make stupid X-Fi retain digital out settings!

Hi All

Installed my X-Fi last night and after some teething problems seem to have worked it all out. Only problem I have now is that when I set "Digial I/O" to enabled, once rebooted, it seems to lose its setting. If I go back into the section to re-enable the digital out, the tick box is already ticked, but it requires an untick and retick in order to get it working again. Very frustrating.

Using the latest drivers (2.09.0007) and dont have anything else installed for the card, should I be using some other creative application (usually dont install such bloatware) in order for it to retain digital out after a reboot?

Exactly the same problem here :)

If i want to use co-axial out (X-Fi Xtreme Music) then I need to goto the digital output setting and change it from Digital I/O to Mic In / Line In and then back again... its a little annoyance for sure, though not the end of the world,

Would be interested to hear if theres a fix

EDIT - Sorry thats using the creative mixer app in "Music playback mode"

So even with the creative apps installed (not just the bare driver) it still does the same thing. As you say its not a train smash but hardly ideal. The only thing I want the digital for is passthrough to my z-5450's. Still have to play about and see if it sounds better/worse/the same letting the xfi decode dd/dts stream.

yeah i have the SW pack installed (well some of it ;) ) I have some Z-5400's and am pretty sure the decoder sounds better than letting the X-Fi deal with it (or thats what im telling myself anyway!)

Your not wrong, I feel the same. Is it just me or is all the "omg get an xfi sounds great" malarkey ive read in every review not entirely accurate? Either that or my ears are borked. Havent played a game with it yet so cant comment on EAX5 and all that but for mp3 playback and what not, cant honestly tell the difference between the onboard. :(

Its not better at reproducing sound than my X-Mystique was, I bought it as I game a lot and was getting sick and tired of the C-Media drivers. I have to say for surround gaming it cant be beaten by any current product on the market (even non EAX games)

Im not unhappy with mine at all, this is the only bug ive found, comapred to the C-media efforts ive been living with for two years this thing is a breath of fresh air :p

Hi m8 sorry to go off topic but can you let me know how you set your system up for digital? Or can anyone else help for that matter? Got the X-Fi Extreme music and some Logitech 5500's. Can't seem to get Digital to work at all for DVD's :( . I had it nailed before I rebuilt my computer!! But can't seem to get it working now! V frustrating

Yeah sure,

I have a mono 3.5mm to phono convertor and a standard coa-axial cable going into my decoders co-axial input (from the "flexijack" on the X-Fi)

I have my volume control set to entertainment mode. "Dolby Digital bitstream out" is set to on in the "Dolby" tab, same for DTS bit stream in the DTS tab and the digital I/O is set to "Digital I/O"

I use windows media player 11 to watch my DVD's and have the Nvidia PureVideo decoder installed (tbh i think this is what makes it all so easy) with that set to route my audio through the SP-Dif.

Hope thats of some help :)

Where can you download the "application" software, like the fancy interface for the different modes that I can see in the knowledgebase on creatives site? I only have a "audio console" in control panel and thats it. I tried to download and install what I thought was the application suite "Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio software pack 01.04.0063" but it wont install telling me I dont have a compatible product (I guess this is for the new Xtreme Audio card thats just come out). What Im talking about is:

I didnt get a CD with mine this is why Im asking.

My problem is exactly the same has only been doing it since i installed the new drivers though. Does anybody know which one actually decodes better between the xfi and the z5500s?
