So do any of you fellow OcUK'er have a passion for making things?

My job has slowly moved towards a more managerial role in recent years, and I've missed the hands on productivity.

Year before last I met up with a friend who had started blacksmithing as a hobby, had a go at making a few things and was hooked!
I like my cooking and knives appealed to me, so I started out making some for myself.

Here's an early forged blacksmiths knife I made from an old file.

A sushi knife I made for a fellow forum member.

And a few of my latest pieces now I'm starting to get a feel for it.

Let's see what you guys like to turn your hands to!

you made all those?! that's genuinely awesome. i'd love to have a go at smithing, I love knives - not for stabby stabby reasons!
I did :) and many more besides. It's a very therapeutic way to pass a few hours! Check out my Instagram page linked for more work.

How much for one of the damascus steel styles knives :p honestly i'd pay you for one.. don't trust any of these mass produced crap sites.
They are not cheap due to the amount of work that goes into them, but they are proper work horses... £250 to start.

I always wanted to do smithing for suits of armour, and would love to build clocks/time pieces.

@Perywinkle do you make to sell? I'd love a https://www.raymears.com/Bushcraft_Product/743-The-Ray-Mears-Bushcraft-Knife/ but refuse the price tag that goes with it.

I'm quite handy in various areas, but don't have time to really focus on anything. Hell, I can even sew and knit.
I do make to sell yes, a bushcrafter in that style would be about £150 dependant on handle material choice.

Those knives look very well made. Better than some of the established brands I'd say. How much would you charge for a skinning knife, similar to the one in the 10th pic down?
£80 for something like that :)

Nice, I did a 1 day blacksmithing course at a local museum a year or so ago, really enjoyed it and would love to do more, but just don't have the space (or time!) Those damascus knives are awesome, did you forge them by hand or with a power hammer?
The billets for these were made by someone else, I'm not set up yet to make large billets yet. I've made a few small bits, it's a lot of work and good fun.
I'm putting together a hydraulic press at the mo so I can make my own :)

I'd totally pay you for a custom kitchen knife!! Kinda like the one with the fox on for a finish! Would love it. Serious about this! :D
Get in touch :)

Those knives are really nice - where did you start to learn how to work with metal like that? The most I ever did with metal at school was making a G clamp.

The antique radio being turned into a media PC is a pretty nice idea too.
YouTube lol

Some great stuff folks are making :)

I only had a month to get stuff together as it was a bit of a last minute thing.
Heading up this afternoon ready for the show tomorrow!

what equipment do you have? power hammer or all by hand?

do your newighburs not get peedoff with all the banging?

No power hammer yet, hopefully one day.
Rent an outbuilding on a farm just down the road where we are setup, only one house nearby and they don't mind :)

Really nice Perywinkle! I have been interested in learning to make chef knives. How did you go about it? What kind of equipment is required to make at home? I currently make food ;) .
You can spend as ittle or as much as you like to get started tbh. I've spent thousands over the last 2 years, but I looked upon it as an investment.
YouTube is your friend. there are many many makers out there putting out videaos that are invaluable to beginners and experts alike. nothing beats practice though, if you can find a blacksmithing or knife making course local to you it would be a big time saver. I'm mostly self taught, but if I had to do it again I would have gone down the class route.
