Making 2 VLANs talk?

Hi,

I've browsed the forum for years, but only now needed to post something, in a hope somebody can enlighten me.

If you have a switch with 2 VLANs and lets say each VLAN has a different IP range....

How would you make them talk? As in, so any machine on VLAN 1 can ping a machine on VLAN 2.

I feel as though it should be simple, but can't get my head around it

The function that it would be performing is that of a router

You can put a firewall between it if you want, do you have a firewall that you can use? Do you just want to set some basic ACLs? It depends on what switch you have as far as the possibilities go.

Yep, my pfSense box acts as a router and firewall between my 2 VLANs and the WAN.
