Hi,

Well I have been working in IT since I was 18. I am now 22, soon to be 23. I have been mmmin and rrrrin for a while now over making a career change but have never got round to doing anything about it. I am still stuck on a helpdesk role and to be honest, I hate it. This isn't due to lack of motivation from me, it is just options I have (or in the case havn't) been given.

I have just come back from a week off work and feel now is the time to make that change. I really hope being nearly 23 isn't too late.

I have looked into Apprenticeships in some sort of trade. Gas Engineer seems to be quite interesting. Only problem is, i'm not quite sure where to start with something like this so I would appreciate any advice or any stories from people who have made a similar move at a similar age and what the outcome was.

I have sent of for some information packs so far but that seems to be all I can find.

I do have potential issue. I have a fair amount of debt hanging on my shoulders. I have 1 year and 9 months left till I am debt free. Apart from that, I have no other commitments.

I'd get the debt payed off first, then change career.

Or if you want out ASAP just take a well paid temp job, while applying for college.

Do apply for college / retraining though. Don't leave it. Changing career is 100% OK before 25 in my opinion but harder after 25.
