Hi,

I'm making a website for a professional photography and would like some advised how I would go about doing this. I have experience using Dreamweaver, that's about it really.

Would I better off using a template instead? Can anyone recommend some design techniques, I'm leaning towards a minimalistic design with some hi-res examples. I don't want it to have a shed load of animations and fancy stuff, just something easy on the eye yet accurately shows what the photographer is capable of.

Oh and the usual stuff like contact details and the like

No offence, but you won't be able to make a design and make a professional website for a photographer.

You may be able to knock together a basic gallery site but when it comes to things like password protected personal galleries with shopping carts you are really going to struggle.

I should have explained myseld better, it wont have a shopping cart or anything password protected. It will just display some example pictures, some sort of nice menu system to browse through pages and have an Arabian feel to it. I think the actual Arty design stuff is going to be harder than coding.

elrasho, ive been out of web developing for about 10 years and doing a photography site for someone (it's amazing how much you forget :o)

Im using wordpress as the CMS and some plugins for gallery/twitter updates.

The site is http://hanamurray.co.uk ignore the design im still playing with it (It was a downloaded template)

But if i was you i would go down this route

Thanks Neodite, will have a look into this :) Does wordpress always have that "blog" style look to it or is that because you haven't finished the design?

It's just because it's a free layout i think, if your willing to pay for one you can get some pretty damn nice ones
