Making the jump from Android to a Windows 10 mobile?

So as long as I can facebook, check my mail, browse web, MS office, read kindle books and watch mp4 videos I'm happy.

Not one of those things works better on a Windows phone than an Android phone. Even Office is better on an Android/iOS device than on a Windows phone.

I'm a little disappointed I can't get at least Firefox on my Lumia 640. I really don't like how the keyboard will sometimes appear ... or not, when you want it to(or not). Mind you, this is an insider preview I'm on so grace given.

Battery life on my Lumia 640 has been awesome so far, I'm extremely impressed for the size of the battery. I've even been using the GPS with it, and it's not sucked the battery as fast as google maps for example (I've downloaded the maps for 4 States so possibly why).

The construction of the case is flimsy, it creaks and you can twist the phone very slightly. I got it for $39 dollars new, so can't really complain at that given the 'XL' model of this phone is over $200!. It definitely needs a case to make it more secure in the hand. (I'm looking at the TUFF hardcase for under $10... I have one on my ZTE ZMAX and it's pretty nice).

Windows 10 itself, so far I find it annoying that if I want to have a pin, I then still have to swipe up. Gonna take a little while to get used to the system, I'm kinda trying to stop myself going back to my ZMAX.

EDIT: I also have a few apps and settings not updating, such 'motion data','touch' and also with 'lumia tips and help' etc. They just error out with no real details on the install.

Keep updating it, I recently got into W10m on the 640XL and it took 3 days before it went. Something about the Preview needing an update which never happens, but it magically updated itself.

I personally thinks Edge is great. Much better than IE but obviously needs more add'ons like Ad Blockers. Otherwise, I have no qualms. That said, on W10m, Edge can be annoying when you flip between tabs and it needs to reload the page again. That needs resolving tbh.

Since when doesn't youtube on ios/android exist.

Since were talking about Windows Phone 10. You've no idea what an official YouTube app on WP10 would be like, so you can't say a 3rd party WP10 app is better than it. You can just say your choice of 3rd party app is the bet out of a limited choice of 3rd party apps, which is basically the position on pretty much everything on WP10.

It would be much like ios/android, and that I can certainly compare it to seeing as I use IPhone daily and even own android which until last week was faily as well. But you are being a bit of an idiot here.
Seeing as the but you have issue with, I even said there wasn't an official app. So what did you think I was comparing it to. Funny yet again how your the only one to take issue with it. Perhaps like usual in these threads your very one sided.

absolutely nothing to do with that, more silly statements. Notice I don't recommend WP to everyone and acknowledge in these threads it has issues. Vastly different to your idiotic comments.

"Has issues"? Its awful. Theres a reason why its the 3rd most popular mobile OS, there are 2 other mobile OS's better than it.

That's not strictly true. I mean the other OS's can be more popular for other reasons than simply being better than it. IN the past, the recent past, people hated Microsoft just because it was Microsoft for example. Some people hated/hate Microsoft without really having a reason - herd mentality :).
If Win10 is better than the two others it might not even be more popular, at least for a long while until before come to realise OR are tempted to leave their comfort zone and try something new and learn something different.

It's had 5 years, how much longer are we supposed to give it? Android has only been around for 7 years, and Microsoft had a history of mobile OSs to buid on too.

Well, that's not really fair.

MS has had a LOT to change over the last few years alone, basically they had to make on universal OS that ran on a Phone, Tablet, PC and Console.

Exactly what does google make?, one Mobile OS and one unrelated none used Chrome OS?...should Google now stop development of that?

5 years is not a very long time given how much has changed.

I was on Windows since the first year it was out, owned the Omnia 7, Lumia 800, 900, 920 and 1520. Every year I waited for that elusive update that would bring developers on board and change everything and although the OS has evolved (not always for the best mind you), the ecosystem inevitably lets you down at some point. Not only are there apps missing but too many of the ones you find are half baked and barely updated if ever.
Last month I decided to go Android and I don't regret it one bit (I have some concerns about the actual device I picked but none about the OS). I will definitely miss having a free GPS with offline maps but beyond that I'm fine. Even the Microsoft maps are better on Android, that's telling.
I'd say try a cheap phone and see how you like it (the experience is largely the same as on a flagship) but don't jump into a 2 years contract just yet.

The point is that it took Android only two years to receive decent apps. Five years from when WP was released, it still has frankly terrible support.

And it isn't going to get it. End of story.

I really like a lot of the WP OS. But I have to agree with Gigabit. It feels like its been in beta for 5yrs.

That just reads like you moving the goal posts to make excuses to defend Microsoft.

Its not just one guy building all MSs OSs :p. In 7 years Google has taken Android from a clunky new step in mobile operating systems into the leading mobile OS (I think, Ill have to check). Meanwhile Microsoft has taken 5 years to take a baseline of lots of experience building mobile OSs into... a rather poor effort at a mobile OS.

Crying that they have been busy doing other things rather underestimates the resources Microsoft have, and is just a desperate attempt to defend them. Like a guy above said, it feels like a 5 year beta. There's no sign that the app support will ever improve so in a thread where someone is asking for advice about moving to Windows Phone, I simply can't find any reason why anyone would suggest it over iOS or Android.
