So I feel a bit miffed having bought a 2nd 780 to play watchdogs and not being able to run it maxed (high not ultra). Am I being ridiculous selling up and getting 2 290s? I dont care about brand loyalty however I do prefer Nvidia. What worries me is this is the first real next gen title and I'm concerned that the 780s and their lack of VRAM ,compared to the 290, will get old real fast. I would be interested to hear what y'all think about the subject

Let me assure you, if you intend playing Watch Dogs anytime soon do not go AMD.

Other than that, the 290 and 780 are relatively similar in performance although the extra gb of vram might come in handy.

+1 It runs a lot better on nVidia from what i gather. Crossfire and SLI both have issues in the game though.

Relax, it is a buggy game

The games code is terrible and Ubisoft are supposed to be addressing it - From what I understand it runs even worse on AMD hardware. I made the switch from years of AMD crossfire setups to the green team SLI and haven't looked back (I am aware that they are better optimized now but stutter on my 7950's eventually made me cave in) . I honestly think changing, especially because of a broken and buggy new release, would be a waste of time and money that ultimately you would regret. ;)

From what I have personally seen the game itself runs very badly on an NVidia and AMD platforms.

I would stay as you are for now oldestgregg and save yourself the hassle.

To reiterate everyone else, the game was delayed 6 months to make it look worse and run bad on PC. Shocking release but blame nVidia :p

Or may be Nvidia wanted to drop the GameWorks bomb on AMD and run, but it somehow went wrong and blown-up in the faces of both themselves and AMD before they could get out of there? :p

I've had absolutely no problems at all on a single overclocked 7950? I wonder if it's more CPU dependent than people realise? I'm using a i7 4770k @ 4.4. Apparently people using dual card setups are having a torrid time with it too.

It really does seem like a lottery with this game at the minute!

It seems that Ubisoft are working on a PC performance patch but still no excuse for releasing it in this state.

Quote from one of the developers: "Watch Dogs can use 3+ GB of RAM on [next-gen] consoles for graphics, your PC GPU needs enough VRAM for ultra options due to the lack of unified mem[ory]"

+1

1600p totally maxed on 4 x 290Xs I get about 70 fps - that's the bad news.

The good news is CF scaling works fantastic, I only get about 18 fps on a single card.

I have to turn my textures down to high to get it to run on my 780Ti's at 1440p. Honestly i was a bit annoyed by it but the actual in game difference between ultra and high textures is so small its almost impossible to tell the difference anyway.

I still get occasional stuttering but I'm pretty sure I'm not running into the vram limit so hopefully that will be addressed with the performance patch.
