Hi folks,

I'm off to Malaga for six days on Sunday - staying in Benalmadena. Anyone have any restaurant recommendations, and/or activity suggestions? Planning to spend some of it on the beach but also like to explore the city.

Won't have a hire car this time, so things I can get to on public transport, ideally.

Thanks in advance for anything you can suggest!

Just been for the nth time, I'll get back to you tomorrow.

Question - do you like hammams (like Roman/Arab baths)?

  • If you like hammams - recommend Hammam Al Andalus. Really nice relaxing experience with different temperature baths and you can add a massage. Suggest booking in advance.
  • Alma Lima - nice Peruvian restaurant near the beach
  • El Refectorium Malagueta - a restaurant out hotel recommended but we didn't have time to go
  • Speakeasy “The Pharmacy” - nice cocktail bar
  • Perro viejo - decent tapas bar
  • ENGLISH SPEAKING DOCTOR - random one but if you run into any medical issues (like my wife did), got it sorted quick time here. Saves a long journey to the hospital
  • Pez Wanda - good restaurant
  • Niccia - another lovely restaurant
  • La Destilería - cocktail bar
  • Cortijo de Pepe - locally recommended tapas bar
  • El Pingoneo - no frills but great quality food tapas bar
  • Castillo de Gibralfaro - castle overlooking the city
  • Bodeguita de Marco - tapas bar
  • Restaurante Bar El Ancla - seafood restaurant
Buses are easy to use and you can just tap your card, plus Uber works really well.

Amazing, thanks for taking the time to write all that <3

If you do get a chance - Caminito Del Rey - obviously without a car not so easy and a bit touristy these days but still well worth it if you get a chance.

La Cosmo for a special dinner. Best meal I had. Went for my birthday.

Renard Cocktail Club. Really cool cocktail bar.

AHH, just seen the date and you're home. But maybe this'll help others.

Hi again, everybody!

Just wanted to say a massive thank you for your suggestions - every one I managed to hit was a win!
  • Hammam Al Andalus is unfortunately closed for a few months' renovation.
  • LOVED El Pingoneo - fairly basic diner targeting locals, delicious food.
  • Gibralfaro was great - hugely recommend taking a taxi up there and walking back down. Paying a couple of extra euros per person to tack on Alcazaba is also well worth it. It's quite exposed up there, so sunscreen up!
  • Speakeasy “The Pharmacy” - excellent cocktails and service, not excessively priced.

A couple of other things I'd recommend to others:
  • If you happen to be out in Benalmadena, Pizzeria Pompei does genuinely excellent pizza.
  • A Venezuelan restaurant, Budare, served probably my favourite food of the trip.
  • Nano's Focaccias - a small hole-in-the-wall type place which does really nice sandwiches, perfect for a quick lunch.
  • BrunchIT - Ok, this is a chain, but still really enjoyed brunch and coffee there.
  • My favourite part of any Spanish city - the central market. Incredible produce, really good prices - plenty of things you can eat while there but, if you happen to have kitchen facilities, you won't find a better place to buy food.
Sea Life in Benalmadena was partially closed and, to be honest, probably wouldn't recommend unless you happen to have a young child who's mad about the ocean.

Already planning my next trip!!

Rhonda is well worth visiting, also the small village that is pretty much embedded in the mountainside.

We enjoyed our time in Malaga city. it's a nice walkable place

Did the car museum as well, nice place to pass a couple of hrs. The cars in there must be 10s of millions worth.

Any recommendations on where to stay on past experiences? Contemplating a last minute visit in the next week or so as it still seems warm. Nothing too fancy but easy to access the main areas of interest?
