Maldives...

ouch, we're going to Mauritius in 3 weeks for a 3rd of that price. I'm sure it was amazing, but 6.5k? wow.

£6.5k for the Maldives is not a lot, we spent £9k in total when we went there a couple years ago for two weeks, it was incredible. In fact we are in Jamaica now and that cost £6700 but the resort is fantastic and IMO worth the money.

You can always do things cheaper but what the hell if you can afford it, you only live once, live in style :)

Indeed. Wish I could blow 9k on a holiday:)

7k on Jamaica sounds mental too:o Isn't it rough as?

Don't you think the uk should take over these small islands, then we can make great holiday locations, we just deport the locals to the uk and give them welfare etc.

Unfortunately I think these small islands won't be round for much longer and the population is likely to have to emigrate to the Indian sub-continent...

Hopefully though the state itself will then cease to exist and they won't be able to implement silly laws and torture female rape victims when that happens.

I'm sure some parts are, and some parts we have seen is very poor but the people have been fantastic and very friendly. It's the first time we've been to Jamaica (Montego Bay) and would happily come here again.

That said, we are just as happy renting a villa in Portugal with a load of friends for a few hundered pounds each so not all holidays have to be expensive to have a good time.

We stayed on chaaya lagoon hakuraa huraa in a water bungalow...

Oh and couples with matching outfits, there were 3 couples that wore matching outfits (different matching outfits each day).

What a coincidence, me and the wife stayed there in January too, when were you there? We flew out Dec 30th for two weeks.

The water bungalows were good but the rest of the island wasn't as nice as our last stay in the Maldives, which was at Olhuvelhi.

Had the same experience with the Chinese, tripods everywhere, daft poses and what on earth was the deal with matching outfits! :o

Edit: Just remembered I sold you a tower unit that you collected from me, would have been even stranger bumping in to you over 5000 miles away!

I stayed at Meeru Garden island Resort. We could not afford a sea cabin so we opted for a garden chalet. 30 seconds from the sea anyway.

Hate to sound flamboyant but it was literally magical. The staff are really friendly , the wildlife is amazing (the giant bats are cool) the sun was blazingly hot, the food is lush, the constant supply of cocktails was hillarious and sitting watching the sun go down with you feet in the sea, a large rum and something or other in your hand and a little bit of pink floyd playing on the stereo is something I will never EVER forget.

We went through first choice and they were really very good. We also paid peanuts by comparison. Think it cost £1200 each.

Amazing. I took my girlfriend ( now the wife) and everyone thought we were married! We just played along.

One thing - watch out for crabs that try and pinch your food - I'm NOT kidding. Little buggers.

It looks like we probably won't be able to afford the maldives, so what are some other alternatives, we want to go to a hot place that's not jam packed with tourists, price limit is £650 per person including flights and somewhere to stay (with food included), and we don't want to fly any where longer than about 5 and 1/2 hours

What time of year?

That's a very small budget.

That is a very small budget for an august holiday. Places that are cheap in August and hot will for obvious reasons be packed.

You will need to compromise on some of your requirements I think.

an exclusive place for 650, will be very very hard to find.

Me and my girlfriend are going to egypt for two weeks all inclusive for 860 each at the end of july and we thought that was a good price!

Try Greece, think we had a nice hotel resort place half board (this is normally enough plus hotel food can get boring every meal) with a decent room and private pool for about £700 each last June in Rhodes. Plus they let us go try out their new hotel that was half empty for free. There's lots of options on some of these scraper sites like icelolly, just check out Trip Advisor for hotel details.
