Malta (Sliema) 2026

We are looking for recommendations please. looking for a nice hotel with views of a waterfront or harbour. Nice eating places, shopping for the boss and cafe's for people watching, thanks.

Are you dead set on malta?

Gozo has a far more laid back pace of life (and a lot less construction lol)
Grand Hotel Overlooking Mgarr is great, as is St Patricks at Xlendi

I could happily spend all day bar hopping around Mgarr or just sitting down Xlendi bay

We've always preferred Gozo over Malta

Sound prefect, never been to Gozo but it sounds like the sort of thing were looking for. Thanks for the tip.

We've been over there multiple times only ever stayed on Malta side once and found ourselves jumping on the ferry most days over to Gozo lol.

Seems some awesome storms down xlendi bay too :)

Marsalforn is the other bay type area filled with restaurants n pubs and I think a bit more touristy.

If you've never been to Gozo there'll be plenty to see as well nothing beats a good womble around the island with Random Cisk stopoffs and a sit down

Nice one, thank you.

Snorkelling and if health permits then scuba. Plenty of SSI, PADI etc. there’s a nature reserve that is only accessible by snorkelling and divers the opposite side of the north tip to the ferry terminal. The water goes shallow reef, drops off to 5 meters before the edge of the reef drops off to 25m.

The national aquarium is up that way. Mdnia is good for a visit - there’s also catacombs etc.. if kids then you have the only water park (slides etc)
Then you have all the excursions I’ve highlighted.

The island is so small virtually everywhere is accessible - you have a number of bus routes that all go around that area, plus the hop-on north etc. just be weary of the traffic and time.

Saw yet another accident swapping details.. both little white cars.. not sure self drive is worth the hassle..
Just back from Malta, stayed in the doubletree in St pauls /Bugibba.

Nice hotel, loads of options for pool-side stuff, had 4-5 outdoor pools and 2 indoor pools. Decent quality overall.

Found Bugibba square and the area around that pretty much a full-on construction site. The walk along the promenade is 4-5 kms and is quite good. Bognor, just past Bugibba square does decent lunchtime fare.

Did a day trip to Mdina,Mosta, valetta and craft "village".

Mdina truly feels like you are in a film set. Mosta dome cathedral was well worth seeing. Valletta looked lovely, up over looking the harbour is a great vista. But loads of tourists, as there were a couple of cruise ships in.

The craft "village" is a complete mis-direction. You expect to arrive at some quaint village with locals making unique pieces. What you get is a number of businesses in an industrial estate type place. Was ok to see a bit of glass blowing, but the visit there and the jewellery factory felt like a money grab attempt from clueless tourists. the traditional maltese lunch that the tour provided wasn't really palatable.

Weather was fine low 20s during the day, 15-16 in the evening.

Ahh we wandered around the what seemed to be a commercial centre with lots of small businesses between busses, didn't do much because it looked like a money pit :)

We went to the pagan temples etc, and the blue hole is great.. there's a family run bar/food - great quality and tasty too.
