Man Arrested After Trying To Build Nuclear Reactor at Home

If you read the link(s)....all materials can be acquired from every day items. Radium from clock hands though you can't buy new as they stopped using it decades ago.

there was another bloke a decade + ago in america who did something similar, he did some amazing things then got arrested.

i think released when they realised he was doing it purely as a hobby/fun rather than anything sinister, was before al lthis crazy omgz terrorisms stuff too .

Ha, what a tool.

Imagine if he made a small nuclear bomb, blow himself up and took out his town/city with him :p

then he'd be possibly the smartest person alive (for those few milli seconds) to have built a nuclear bomb from scratch.

Haha has anyone read the meltdown in the kitchen post.

http://richardsreactor.blogspot.com/2011/05/110521-meltdown.html

But kudos for trying.

Lol meltdown. Our cooker looks like that when I finish.

The thing to lol at there is the last guys comment!

pffff Has no one mentioned; Smoking will kill you?!!!! Never-mind the toxic brew you have been fooling around with.

Anyhow why all the bother?

Just go out there and trap a couple of litres of air in some milk cartons, and get on with your experiments. Seeing as there already exist copious amounts of carp thrown out by Fukushima added to the remnants of US, USSR nuclear tests. Hence, there ought to be enough stuff for you to play around with, and the added benefit of not getting into trouble with any jobs' worth GUBMINT types.

Just make sure that you wash the milk cartons you use thoroughly, so that you don't get skewed data, from the milk contamination!

Wish you good splitting and don't let the ******* grind you.

Edit: Edited for family friendliness! :p

so smart, yet so dumb.

Yeah, smart enough to know some atom physics and yet blog it out for the world to see.

Bit like some of the customers who used to ring my tech support line. Some were smart enough to have a 1st class Honours or even a Masters, yet they didn't know how to perform spell check in MS Word or keep their antivirus up-to-date.

Another classic smart/dumb example was my old IT manager. He wrote his resignation date in his Outlook calendar not remembering that he has shared his calendar with all of the techs :p

That is actually amazing. Reminds me of the guy who used to put his sweets in citric acid to make it sour. Accidently put it in the wrong tub on his desk and blew his head off.

I want to build my own Tesla Coil (then I can take over the world)
;)

I know you're not serious, but if you are, It's not really that hard, the biggest challenge is generating a high enough voltage, you need around 10,000V+ for a decent sized arc; The higher the voltage the larger the arc.

You could use a transformer from something like a microwave or CRT TV, but these people have managed to use car batteries and a car ignition coil, which are easy and cheap to buy at a scrapyard:

http://www.rmcybernetics.com/projects/DIY_Devices/homemade_tesla_coil.htm

I actually have most of these parts already, but I don't really have a use for one so I doubt I'll build one...

The higher the voltage the harder (and more dangerous) it will turn out to be.

You really need to know what you're doing once you start getting arcs like this...

:eek::cool::D

that man should be given a job and not arrested.

Agreed. Though I think it's fair to say you wouldn't want anyone who fancied having a go trying it.

I wonder how many smoke detectors you have to buy to build a headache for the Police? And does typing that mean I can expect a knock on my door in about...

Hang on, I'll be back in a minute.
