Man cured of HIV

HIV is basically a virus which utilises the red blood cells to replicate.

In short the virus levels in your blood grow exponentially, then at a threshold the T-cell count is slow low you have zero immune system.

The diseases etc that are normally counted by the immune system can then continue unchecked. Some require more t-cells than others. Eitherway without the immune system the majority of diseases will cause issues and usually one or a combined effect of them will eventually kill the host.

Replacing the marrow means that the red cells produced prevent the replication of the HIV virus. It's then a waiting game for the virus to 'die' and the levels to drop to zero. The virus itself is quite fragile outside of the red cells.

The problem is that there are different mutations out there. So you can be infected by different strains.

why?

It would be the worst bio weapon ever made, poor spreading capability and 10 + years to kill :/

That's the best idea, then you bring out a drug which supresses the HIV, thus making a large constant income.

It's far too smart for 'hippies' to work out.

Utilises T-cells, not red blood cells. The "bursting" of the new virus particles out of the T-cells is what destroys them and leaves you with no immune system.

Unfortunately with this guy I wouldn't be surprised if the HIV virus is still present in his brain tissue and we see a relapse later in life. Recessions and "cures" like this have been seen before, only to have patients relapse 10-20 years down the line :(

 You think donating bone marrow is fun?

I've joined the Anthony Nolan trust to donate bone marrow should I be a match for a leukaemia sufferer. Im crapping myself if it happens though because it is supposed to be rather painful :(

#EDIT: Made me think, going to link ANT into my sig :)

I had to get a sample of my bone marrow taken from my spine. I'd rather get a nail through my hand than go through that immense pain again.

To be honest your life expectancy with HIV on HAART is probably longer than your life expectancy after a bone marrow transport.

wasnt it up to 37years a few years ago, and thats the people who were taking the drugs that were available from 37years ago up until now.
So obviously now anyone who gets infected with it tommorow has drugs that have been developed 37years into the future than those the others started out on..
Id hazard a guess and say that if a 20yr old was infected with HIV tommorow they would live longer than their 20yr old mate who smoked.

edit.. MY GOD

Lets come up with theories as to why the government is tricking us into stopping smoking!
